Friday, July 13, at 17 p.m. In the logging area, stones will be hammered, ice will be broken and food will be eaten hotdogs– The Sculpture and Stained Glass Center will host an evening of open artist studios, creative workshops, art installations and live music.
The Sculpture and Stained Glass Center started operating in 1984. It is an industrial building, unique in its original purpose - to design large Soviet sculptures characterized by the ideology of the time. In the center, which now belongs to the Union of Lithuanian Artists, since the regaining of independence, artists have had workshops who have resurrected the center for a new and free stage. Until now, original works, sculptures, monuments, monumental works of art, stained glass windows are produced or restored here, artists also reside, exhibitions are planned.
The gallery "Art Drawers" opened last year also operates in the unique center. Its inventor, sculptor Liutauras Griežė, in an interview with Lithuanian news, said, "After the production of large Soviet sculptures stopped, the building seemed to be stuck in time. Having rented a workshop here, I saw the potential of this place (more precisely, its size). London's Tate Modern gallery is a former powerhouse the station, an industrial complex on the banks of the Thames - now transformed into a center for contemporary art. These facilities are of a similar size and capacity."
The visitors of the event can expect spectacular views - the surroundings will delight the eyes of 5 m. high doe, 10 m. long Cuban cigar and an almost life-size dolphin dozing somewhere in the grass, and inside there is a stage and concert space under a 12-meter-high ceiling, installations and other behind-the-scenes curiosities of the creative process.
Visitors to the event will be able to visit artists' studios, visit the exhibition of the painter Rokas Beržiūnas, who is famous for his delicate and light strokes, in the gallery "Art Drawers" located in the center. Visitors to the center will also be surrounded by the sparkling video installations and projections of Saulius Paliuk.
