You have probably heard about the International Folklore Festival "Skamba skamba kankliai", which takes place in May every year, the lively Užgavėnes in the center of Vilnius or the lit-up Neris embankment on the evenings of the Autumnal Equinox... All this is just a part of the events presented to the city of Vilnius by the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center and its team. During the 25 years of its existence, the work of the Center expanded and the list of activities became longer: today, the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center not only organizes holidays in the city of Vilnius - traditional culture is also nurtured by carrying out various educational programs for children and adults and preparing publishing projects.
Milda Ričkutė, the long-time director of the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center, emphasizes that ethnic culture is life. "What happened yesterday is already folklore. Everything is changing and it is inevitable that we, following the canons of tradition, must constantly change, look for new forms of expression and adapt to the times", says M. Ričkutė about the continuity of traditions in urban conditions. When asked how to get modern young urbanites interested in ethnic culture, the director replied that it is important to listen to young people's expectations and try to bring traditions closer to the present: "It is important to continue traditions and apply them today - creatively, by interpretation, because this is interesting and understandable for a young person."
Director M. Ričkutė is happy that the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center has been developing its activities for 25 years and has assembled an enthusiastic team full of new ideas for this purpose: "Working here ideas people and we can all feel at home." This is probably why the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center succeeds in implementing various projects related to traditional culture in the capital.
The Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center invites Vilnius residents to happily celebrate its 25th anniversary by organizing a week of free activities "Ethnoculture Week". "Week with ethnoculture" is December 11-17. a series of events intended for both children and adults to touch traditional culture through music, singing, games or creating various handmade products. The Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center will end the festive week with the annual concert dedicated to the Advent period "Middle Field Grape", which will take place on December 17. 13.00:XNUMX p.m. Vilnius town hall.
