Traditional "Snaigė" hikes are coming back. Continuing the beautiful tradition started by Algimantas Jucevičius, the Vilnius Travelers Club together with the Tourist Club of the Academy of Sciences and the orienteers from the "Fortūnas" club have prepared a 5 km ski track for this weekend outside Vilnius, in the vicinity of Senasalis village.
This Sunday (December 17) from 10.00:XNUMX a.m. we will wait for skiers in Senasal. We will treat the finishers with tea (bring cups if you can) and give away "Snaigė" hiking stickers.
Currently, the traditional "green route" with a stop on the Barsukynė mountain is already marked. The start and end of the route is the bus stop in Senasali (coordinates 54.51305, 25.52853). There is a part of the track (about 950 m) where two-way traffic, that is, after sliding 950 m, there is an intersection: straight ahead to the track, from the left - back from the track. You can try it now!
Those traveling to Senasalis with their own transport should drive on the Minsk highway and after 20 km turn right at the sign "Senasalis 10". Bus Vilnius - Senasalis from suburban buses of the station leaves at 9:30. The return time is less convenient - the bus leaves Senasali at 15:00.
"Snaige" hikes have started Beautiful and took place in 19670-1972, after which it moved to Vilnius and was held continuously for almost the entire 50 years (until the times of the pandemic, when the state support for "Snaigė" marches was stopped). Many Vilnius residents stood on skis for the first time during "Snaigės" hikes in the forests of Karoliniškii, Verkii, Saulėtekios districts or in Senasali. In the last years of its existence, "Snaigė" attracted 1000-2000 Sunday skiing enthusiasts, and the prepared tracks continued to be used for individual skiing.
As Algimantas Jucevičius himself says, "movement is life in the whole world, in all nature; everyone moves as they know how, as they can". So we invite everyone to move together and come to Senasali on Sunday - Vilnius district The North Pole, where there is enough snow even when the primroses are blooming in Vilnius. If there is enough snow, we intend to organize the next ski trip on the last day of the year.
