A memorial service will be held in Vilnius on June 14. event, during which the Day of Mourning and Hope will be commemorated. Nearby, on the other side of Gediminas Avenue, a Porsche luxury car event will take place, which will be the largest event of its kind in Lithuania. The mayor has taken action - in order to avoid ambiguity, he will order the event to be moved.
"Although technically the events are separated by a fairly large distance, the location for the second one could have been chosen more appropriately, not on the same street. I have already given the municipal administration the task of coordinating with the organizers of the second event an alternative location in the city. One where the event would not cause ambiguities," the mayor informs on his social networks.
“If you have a Porsche, you have an invitation”; “Where city traffic usually flows, on the evening of June 14, only Porsches will drive,” reads the posts of “Porsche Lietuva” on social networks.
In this way, the organizers invite Porsche owners to a night slalom race, and residents to an open-air car gallery. True, the same residents noticed that the event would start on Gedimino Avenue. Which caused outrage, because on the other side of the street there will be commemorations of the Day of Mourning and Hope. The day, which in Lithuania marks the first deportations organized by the NKVD after Lithuania's annexation to the USSR.
During the event, the LiJOT event "You Will Not Exile Memory" will be held, during which the names and surnames of Lithuanian residents who experienced exile and imprisonment by Soviet executioners will be read.
