On January 16, at 19 p.m., the capital's gallery "Meno Niša" presents the exhibition "Disposition" of video artist Rimos Sakalauskas' musical 3D video works and video clips. The artist will present works created by the groups "Antis", Leon Somov, "Daddy was a Milkman" and others. for songs.
One of the most talented video artists of the young generation, Rimas Sakalauskas specializes in multimedia, 3D installation. Rimas can boast a long list of achievements, including the "Silver Crane" and "Golden Stage Cross" awards, his work was chosen as the best installation at the art fair "ArtVilnius'13", and he was recognized as the best young artist of the fair at ArtVilnius'18. "Disposition" is the third solo exhibition of Rimos Sakalauskas in the Meno Niša gallery.
Rimas Sakalauskas will present 3D video works and video clips created by musicians Leon Somov (song "Impatient" together with Jimmy Burney), Daddy was a Milkman (song "Choke"), Monikaze (song "Adidas"), for the group "Antis" (song "Give me a medal") and others. In addition to the already officially released clips, Rimas will also present works that have not been shown anywhere else at the exhibition.
According to Rimos Sakalauskas, in recent years he has intensively collaborated with musicians, and has accumulated a considerable archive of video works. "I wanted to bring all the work into a certain system, an installation, a larger and broader audiovisual work. Finally, the video clips I create are just scattered around the Internet, they are made with different techniques", said Rimas, adding that creating music videos has more advantages than working in the theater.
"When creating music videos, you already have good enough frames, patterns and rhythms that you can use to create an idea. The music is quite abstract and therefore lends itself to wide interpretation. Working with musicians is usually very fruitful. They have ideas, but they never impose or make them absolute. They become like arbitrators of the work, allowing them to express themselves freely enough", Rimas Sakalauskas said.
Speaking about the collaboration with Rim, musician Leon Somov said that the artist knows his work perfectly, generates brilliant ideas and is interested in new trends. "With the piece "Impatient", I set out to create a work that I could proudly show to my grandchildren," said the musician, who described "Impatient" as a "psychedelic journey through an emotional state". Leon Somov was happy that the clip created by Rimo complemented this trip and made the work more meaningful. "Excavated and extremely original motifs highlighted feelings not expressed in words in the song. It is very effective in the moment when the creators find a common language and the work takes on a completely different level. I think that without Rim, this piece would be just a "journey through the state", said Leon Somov.
Rimas Sakalauskas also created a video clip for the song "Choke" by the musician Daddy was a Milkman. According to the artist, "Choke" is a song about dark moments, so he could not have found a more suitable video creator than Rimas for this song with light. "It was not for nothing that Rim said that I would take my positive songs to someone else," Daddy was a Milkman said with a smile about collaborating with Rim. According to the musician, Choke is more of a concert live video than a music video. The purpose of this video work was to help the song "take" the listener during the concert, to complement the song in a way that is easy to understand; not only to hear but also to see that dark mood, it is easier to give in to it.
In addition to musical projects, Rimas Sakalauskas works intensively with theater directors. Some of Rim's most prominent theatrical projects are video projections for Icelandic director Thorleifur Arnarsson's play "Independent people" (Icelandic National Drama Theatre, Reykjavik), video projections for Onutė Narbutaitė's opera "Kornet" (director Gintaras Varnas), as well as projections for musician Philip Glass' concert "American Four" Seasons" (Lyon, France).
Gallery "Meno Niša" has already presented Rimo's video works at the international art fairs "Positions Berlin", "Viennacontemporary", London's Global Art Fair Art'16, YIA in Paris and Brussels, Kiev Art Week etc. He has purchased several video works by Rimos Sakalauskas MO Museum. The exhibition "Disposition" is part of the gallery's "Art space for young artists" project, a continuous art project successfully implemented since 2011. which includes exhibition cycles of young creators, encouraging their initiatives and the continuity of artistic ideas. The project is partially financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture
