Ministry of Culture "Lietuvos žinios" reports that 74 national and republican museums under the control of the Ministry of Culture will receive visitors free of charge every last Sunday of the month from January.
It is emphasized that the entrance to the museum and viewing its exhibits will be free - those who want the services of museum guides and those who want to participate in educational programs will have to pay.
Among the 74 museums that open their doors free of charge are Gediminas Castle Tower, Palanga Amber Museum, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Art Gallery, Lithuanian Ethnocosmology Museum in Molėtai district, Klaipėda the Lithuanian Maritime Museum is located in the Kaišiadorių district, the folk household museum in Rumšiškės, the Trakai History Museum (Trakė Castle), the Žemaičių Museum "Alka" in Telšiai.
The Ministry of Culture announced last November that the model of free museum visits will be financed with budget funds, compensating museums for lost income.
