This year, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of Lithuania's most prominent artists, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Vilnius University (VU) The Botanical Garden is organizing and inviting for the first time to the exclusive exhibition "Flowers Dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of MK Čiurlionis", which will take place on June 13–15. The exhibition will feature Paeonia lactiflora (Peony of the Magnificent) hybrid variety, named after MK Čiurlionis, along with other ornamental plant species and varieties.
The name of MK Čiurlionis Paeonia lactiflora The hybrid variety was given to the famous florist and breeder Pranciškus Puidokas. P. Puidokas, who lives in Žiežmariai, has been growing flowers for three decades, and has been engaged in ornamental plant breeding since 2005. The varieties of peonies, irises, and daylilies created by him are included in international registers.
At the exhibition "Flowers Dedicated to the 13th Anniversary of MK Čiurlionis" taking place at the VU Botanical Garden on June 15–150, visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with this and other exceptional flower varieties created by Lithuanian breeders, as well as with decorative, fragrant, medicinal, spicy, aromatic Lithuanian flora and woody collectible plants grown at the VU Botanical Garden.
Currently, the VU Botanical Garden's peony collection contains more than 340 names of peonies. A significant part of the peony collection grown in the Botanical Garden consists of peony varieties bred in Lithuania. A number of peony species and varieties were acquired in cooperation with collectors and various Lithuanian and foreign botanical gardens.
The exhibition "Rings Dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of MK Čiurlionis" is part of the MK Čiurlionis jubilee year program "Čiurlionis 150".
The exhibition presentation will take place on June 13 at 13 p.m. at the VU Botanical Garden (Kairėnų g. 43, Vilnius). The exhibition will be open on June 13 from 13 p.m. to 19 p.m., and on June 14–15 from 10 a.m. to 19 p.m. Admission to the event is free with a garden visitor ticket.
