In the Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania, located in the center of Vilnius, visitors are invited to a new exhibition dedicated to the outstanding figure of interwar Lithuania - lawyer, politician and banker Vladis Stašinskas. Today, October 10, marks the 150th anniversary of his birth.
"The exhibition renews the public's memory, reminding what kind of people worked for Lithuania in the past. Vladas Stašinskas was in many places the first or among the first when we remember the defense of Lithuanian interests before the revival of our State and at the beginning of its existence. He is one of the first Lithuanian deputies in the smoke of the Russian Empire, the first Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, the first Chairman of the Council of Jury Advocates, the second Governor of the Bank of Lithuania," says Asta Kuniyoshi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.
"We tried to assemble the puzzle of this man's life from scarcely preserved documents and photos, letters, and other unique exhibits that we found and are showing in one place to people interested in the history of Lithuania. The impressive description of his professional activities is in sharp contrast with the modest personality of Vladas Stašinskas, his concern for his family", said Karolis Tumelis, one of the curators of the exhibition, senior specialist of the Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania.
Vladas Stašinskas was the Minister of Internal Affairs in 1918. in November-December. The photo of the first Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers shown in the exhibition reminds us of this. Later, he once again worked in the Government - from 1938. in October until 1939 January he was the minister of justice.
Vladas Stašinskas worked as the chairman of the Council of Jury Advocates from 1920 to 1926, and later held the position of vice-chairman for some time. This is reminiscent of the 1920s shown in the exhibition. December 12 the first minutes of the meeting of the Council of Jury Advocates of Lithuania, signed by Vladas Stašinskas and a group of other meeting participants.
A significant part of the exhibits of the exhibition is related to the work of Vladas Stašinskas at the Bank of Lithuania, which he headed in 1930-1938, during one of the most difficult periods of the bank's activity, when the Great Depression was raging around the world. At that time, the State Central Bank took a strict position not to devalue the litas and to maintain its stability, thereby encouraging the development of the Lithuanian economy through lending.
In addition to the items owned by the Money Museum, the exhibition displays exhibits borrowed from the family of Vlad Stašinskas, from three libraries (Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas, Ĺžuolynas, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Vrublevskiu), two archives (Lithuanian State History, Central State of Lithuania), four museums (Lithuanian National , Lithuanian Sea, Biržai region "Sėla", Kėdainiai region), lawyer Zenon Keručis. One of the partners in the organization of the exhibition is the Lithuanian Bar Association.
