While museums, theaters and cinemas are closed, the gallery (AV17) presents another way to see works of art safely. Pylimo str. A pop-up group exhibition of artists has already taken place in the showcase located in the 34th building, where six Lithuanian sculptors present their works: Jonas Aničas, Andrius and Nerijus Erminai, Tauras Kensminas, Rimantas Milkintas and Rafal Piesliak.
According to the manager of the gallery (AV17), Kristina Mizgirytė: "We live in a completely complicated period, when we are looking for a break from the routine. Art can help do this and even improve a person's psychological state. Many cultural institutions around the world are looking for new, interactive or alternative ways to present art to the public. Exhibitions are being moved to virtual spaces, but a live relationship with the work is currently sorely lacking. The pop-up exhibition on Pylimo Street offers an alternative and an opportunity to view the works not only on the screen."
The pop-up exhibition was located in a non-traditional space, where the works of contemporary art are revealed from a new, unexpected angle. The sculptures, sculptural objects and light installations presented here interact with their unique environment, thus creating a mysterious, as if frozen in time, atmosphere, reflecting the recent period as well.
"The exhibition can be viewed at any time of the day, walking or driving by," continues the gallery manager. "It is open to everyone who misses culture and contemporary art. Since the pandemic situation in Lithuania and the world remains unpredictable, open access to culture is needed more and more. There is also an increasing desire for a live, close connection with the works, which is why we give art lovers the opportunity to purchase the exhibited works and place them at home."
Gallery (AV17) has been presenting sculpture, object and installation art for ten years. Not limited to exhibitions in exhibition spaces, the gallery aims to bring art closer to society and is constantly engaged in educational activities. In order to include professional contemporary art in everyday life, the gallery (AV17) also plans to present an exhibition of outdoor sculptures in Vilnius in the spring.
