The art festival "Art After Hours", which is like an extension of the contemporary art fair "ArtVilnius", has become not only a tradition, but also an important event of the city. Contemporary art initiatives, ideas, international networking event expands the opportunities to feel the artistic pulse of Vilnius for foreign guests, Vilnius residents and everyone who is interested in art. The doors of city galleries and institutions are free for overnight guests until 23 p.m. will open this Friday, October 7th.
"This year is exceptional for the Art After Hours festival, we are already starting to celebrate the 700th birthday of Vilnius next year. The contemporary art festival undoubtedly reflects the young, pulsating Vilnius and its dynamic, curious and energetic field of contemporary art", says festival curator Gabija Tarabilda. 14 galleries and art spaces, 80 artists will participate in the art festival, 9 events, meetings and performances.
On October 7, Vilnius will be immersed in art - you can start the morning at the exhibition and congress center LITEXPO, where the opening of the art fair "ArtVilnius'22" will take place, and after the sun goes down you can continue your art exploration completely free of charge in selected Vilnius city galleries, art and public spaces. Their owners organize not only the most interesting exhibitions, shows, performances and installations for visitors, but also meetings with artists and gallerists.
From 20:XNUMX p.m., two tours of selected galleries will start in different parts of the city, the participants of which will be accompanied by female art experts. For those who don't know Vilnius very well, the gallery route created especially for the festival will help them get to know the city.
Vilnius art spaces participating in the "Art After Hours" festival were selected by G. Tarabilda, curator of the event. The most important goal of the selection is to combine galleries, art spaces and artists into one evening of quality content, in which anyone can participate. The curator has no doubt that such art festivals help those who are just taking the first steps in this field to get to know art better: "The main idea of the festival is to make art open and accessible. The festival undoubtedly fulfills an educational function - it allows the public to get acquainted with various artistic directions and techniques - graphics, painting, photography, sculpture, video and sound installations, performances and many others."
In the gallery "5 mills" of the Vilnius Academy of Arts on friday night there will be witchcraft. The research object of Karolina Łola Valentaitė's personal exhibition "Witch Diaries" is witchcraft. Contrasting, graphic, cosmic and mystical energy, cross-cultural symbolism spaces open up in the extremely large-format canvases, where the theme of human nature is explored. In the Gallery "Arka" of the Union of Lithuanian Artists the action will begin at 19 p.m. Pianist Simonas Gilys will spread the sounds of improvisational music here. After the concert, gallery visitors will be invited to two excursions - to the exhibition "Teatro navigacija: kas there", and the second excursion will invite them to walk around the exhibition "Relocation" by Linas Liandzbergis and Arturo Valiaugas.
Artifex textile gallery of the Vilnius Academy of Arts it will be possible to meet the artist Daukantas Subačiūtas. Having collected the best works created during and after the quarantine, Daukantė invites you to her public works. "Public works" - that's the name of her exhibition, in which the plots are arranged with felt-tip pens and colored pencil lines (and not only) - absurd and cute, cute and cozy, obscene and funny. Gallery "AV17will present Andrej Polukord's personal exhibition "Goat". The artist explores the topic of consumerism using works created from secondary raw materials, and objects found in nature become a kind of traces of human activity or its documentation.
Artists from various fields, participants of the international project "Making of..!", Artists' Union Gallery transformed into a creative laboratory/studio. The exhibition brought together an international team of artists - Jaap Klevering (Finland/Netherlands), Simonas Kuliešis (Lithuania), Marija Marcelionytė-Paliukė (Lithuania), Christoph Mügge (Sweden), Sebastian Mügge (Sweden), Tuomas Ollikainen 'as (Finland), Merja Pennanen (Finland), Viljami Roivas (Finland). In the gallery of the Union of Interdisciplinary Art Creators "Atletika" will present the exhibition "Erdvės politika" to night visitors, which collects the projects created in the creative laboratory and symposium "Erdvės politika" and previously implemented by creators.
The artist will also open the doors of her gallery wide Kristina Norvilaitė. From half past ten in the evening, she will invite fans of her art to a meeting and tell about the exhibition of her graphic works "Invisible signs of the sky". In the gallery "Art niche" video artist Rimas Sakalauskas will try to combine two realities - real and virtual. In the two-part exhibition, visitors will be treated to a kinetic interactive installation that will be accessible to experience through virtual reality glasses, and the video work "Reversed".
MO Museum in the sculpture garden the museum's sculpture exhibition will be open around the clock. Here, revelers will find the works of National Prize laureates Mindaugas Navakas, Petros Mazuras, and Vladas Urbanavičius. Ksenija Jaroševaitė's figurative sculptures of unconventional beauty and "Viktor or Victoria" by Donatas Jankauskas-Duonis and a fragment of the tombstone for the Liobi family created by Vincos Kisarauskas are also fitting in the MO garden.
"Memorial Gallery" of the Union of Lithuanian Artists brought together artists Niklas Ingelius, Atis Izands, Agnė Juodvalkytė, Madaa Kvepa, Leelo Mai, Kristen Rastas, Ansis Rozentalis, Jurgis Tarabildas, Karolis Vaivadas, Laura Velas, Linda Vilkas. Young artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland question painting and its historical perception in the international exhibition "Such Consciousness: Baltic Painting in an Expanded Field".
Užupis art incubator there will be meetings with the artist Morta Jonynaite, who presents her exhibition "Square Root" here. In the exhibition, the spaces of the Užupis art incubator become brains, whose hemispheres are tangled with shame and envy. Uncomfortable feelings, taking physical form, fly from the head to the public and become mediators of different experiences. Vilnius Graphic Art Center an excursion will be held after the 5th exhibition of book illustrations "O, Imago!", which brought together 40 Lithuanian illustrators. Visitors to the art center will be guided and told stories by the curators of the exhibition, Ieva Babilaitė and Jolita Liškevičienė. This is the only exhibition of its kind in Lithuania, which has a long tradition of continuity and presents the most successful examples of Lithuanian book illustrations of all genres, content and form.
