The project "Design Foundation: Actualization of History" focuses on the history of Lithuanian design: its recording, documentation, research and actualization.
in 2016 the 7th century was chosen as the research topic. The XNUMXth decade, for several reasons, is significant for the development of Lithuanian design. XNUMXth century at the turn of the XNUMXs and XNUMXs, new design institutions were founded, specialized study programs were created, design exhibitions were started, and the ideas of modernization of objects and the environment emerged.
In the course of the project "Design Foundation: Actualization of History", interviews with designers of the 7s were filmed, and design samples, archival documents, photographs, fabric patterns and materials of that period were collected and analyzed.
During creative workshops, in cooperation with Lithuanian design studios, artists and designers, recreate, interpret or create new design examples that tell about Lithuanian design personalities, events, objects and their stories of the 7s. They will be presented in the exhibition and instant design store:
Birutė Žilytė's illustrations in Janis Rainis's book Aukso sietelis (1967) scarf collection ("Indigo textile");
Julius Juzeliūnas collection of ties, bow ties and fantasies ("Indigo textile", "April look");
"Children's marmalade" set (Less table);
Posters of the 7s (by Juozos Galkaus, Kęstutis Gvaldas, Vytautas Kaushinis and Kęstutis Šveikauskas);
restored lamp by Vytautas Čekanauskas (1966) and created design objects interpreting it ("Torem");
Lygija Marija Stapulionienė's chaise longue (1960) and the furniture of the Composers' Union (1966) ("Old-new") have been restored;
created and released in 2017 Design calendar "Created in Lithuania in the 7s" ("Design Foundation").
The exhibition and instant shop will be open until December 31.
