The National Art Museum of Lithuania and the Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius Charity and Support Fund continue the cycle of joint events and present the project - the mobile exhibition "Karvedys Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius - XNUMXth century. European Legend" in a restored cowherd's tent. The author and leader of the project idea is the director of the Lithuanian National Art Museum, dr. Arūnas Gelūnas.
From May 4 In the representative courtyard of the Counts Chodkevičius Palace, which houses the museum's Vilnius Picture Gallery (Dižioji St. 4), in commemoration of the jubilee year of Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius, visitors are shown the historical tent of the warlord JK Chodkevičius (1561–1621), created according to the portrait of the Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania (XVII– XNUMXth century) and the painting "The Battle of Kirkholm" by the artist Pieter Snayers shows the historical tents of the warlord. The outside of the tent is decorated with the coats of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the warlord JK Chodkevičius. In the educational room inside it, the informative exhibition "XNUMXth century. The legend of Europe - warlord Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius", created a space for educational activities for young people, where cultural education will be held, readings of historical works about the warlord will be held, conversations with historians, art critics, literary experts, military historians, and television broadcasts of these events will be held.
Exhibition "Karvedys Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius - 1619th century. European legend" in the story of the horseman, his famous victorious battles and other images of this person's life are presented in works of art (a picture painted by the XNUMXth-century artist Pranciškaus Smuglevičius, depicting the last hours of JK Chodkevičius' life near the Chotyn fortress, Sassenage restored by the Lithuanian National Art Museum and exhibited in the Vilnius Picture Gallery facsimiles of Pieter Snayers's painting "The Battle of Salaspils" (XNUMX) kept in the castle (France) and other visualizations of the victories of warriors created by artists of various centuries). The battle works of P. Smuglevičius and P. Snayers have been restored in the museum and studied in detail by its restorers and art historians, so their plots are actualized in the historical tent of JK Chodkevičius as essential signs of perpetuating the glory of the warlord.
Exhibition and events will take place in the cowherd's tent specially designed and manufactured for this anniversary, the area of which is 54 m2 (9 m long, 6 m wide and 4,5 m high). Sewn by sewing machine, the tent comes with a veil, decorated with colored ornament and colored fringes, decorated with two hand-painted emblems of JK Chodkevich. The tent will be erected and dismantled 3 times: in Vilnius (May), Kretinga (June-August), Vilnius (September).
The special educational events of the exhibition are primarily intended for young learners, and the informative exhibition "Karvedys Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius - 4th century. The Legend of Europe" is open to all visitors of the Vilnius Picture Gallery from May 31 to 24. From the beginning of June to August, the tent and the exhibition installed in it will be in Kretinga, founded by JK Chodkevičius, next to the Kretinga Museum. The museum will organize educational and cultural events and meetings there. Throughout September, the 400th of which commemorating the XNUMXth anniversary of the warlord's death, the tent and the exhibition set up in it will be erected once again in the courtyard of the Vilnius Picture Gallery and events will continue to take place there.
