Dainius Ščiuka, a well-known photographer and Samsung ambassador in Lithuania, can boast of many achievements in his field. One of them is the photographic works decorating the recently Michelin-starred Demo restaurant"space.

He spends the whole working day at the computer

D. Ščiuka says that working at the computer takes up a large part of his day. He usually spends about 6-8 hours on it, so in order for the work to be as efficient as possible, he pays great attention to a high-quality monitor.

"For every representative of the visual profession, a monitor is one of the most necessary investments. I know that if I invest in a quality screen, I will be able not to think about it for a good five years or even more, so I choose my monitor very responsibly. The main things I pay attention to when choosing this device: accurate color reproduction, high resolution, details and a large screen. Thanks to the large screen, the work is much more comfortable, the eyes are less tired," says the well-known photographer.

It is important - high-quality resolution, the ability to connect various devices

Another important feature that the monitor must have is that the device must be able to be calibrated - its colors should be adapted to print.

"This feature is essential for me because I often print my photos, which requires accurate color reproduction. Also 4K or 5K resolution - it allows you to see fine details and work with high-resolution images without reducing their quality. It is very important that the monitor displays colors accurately, so I would advise you to choose the ones that support the widest color spectrum", says D. Ščiuka.

Samsung 1440p (Quad HD) and 4K (Ultra HD) monitors are characterized by these features: image quality and more detailed graphics.

When working, the photographer usually uses a 27-inch screen - this diagonal screen seems the most optimal for him. When choosing a monitor, D. Ščiuka also considers IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels. According to him, compared to other types of panels, these provide better color rendering and wider viewing angles. In addition, in order to work as efficiently as possible and to easily connect various devices to the monitor, it must have various connections: USB-C, HDMI and DisplayPort.

Although photography and design do not always require a high refresh rate and fast response time or high brightness (from 300-400 nits) ensuring brightness and contrast, according to D. Škiukas, these functions can be useful when working with filmed video material or animation, so those who are interested in these areas - he advises to pay attention to the listed functions.

Photographs adorn the space of the Michelin-starred restaurant

Just recently restaurant, which is decorated with the works of D. Ščiukas, received long-awaited recognition and was rated with a Michelin star. The photographer is happy that his favorite place has received such attention, and he was able to view his works in a restaurant visited by Michelin reviewers.

"As a newcomer to Vilnius, I was always looking for a comfortable place to work and socialize, so when the Demoloft cafe opened near my house, I went there every day. I became one of their first loyal customers. I saw a lot of beautiful, but challenging work in the kitchen, the team's great desire to have a cozy, communal home and the desire for this place to have a deeper concept," he says.

After developing a friendship with one of the founders of Demo, Dalia Mauricaite-Kalinauskiene, she presented the concept of neighbor portraits to D. Ščiuka and invited her to take a photo. As he himself says, he very quickly became an official member of the Shevchenko Street neighborhood community.

In the "Demo restaurant" my photographs hang not only on the walls. One photograph is integrated into the interior as part of the furniture. I also photographed some of the neighbors whose portraits are displayed in the restaurant space. This idea was born from the team's desire to create community. Later I took on this project myself. The principle of such photo sessions was simple: the neighbors visited my studio all day and took pictures. That's how we had the opportunity to get to know each other to become friends", says the artist and adds that it is impossible not to notice the photos of this cycle in the restaurant.
