From April 8, Thursday, the gallery "Meno Niša" invites you to Audra Vau's personal exhibition of photographs, sculptures, light installations and video works "Niekur". In it, the artist will present an almost autobiographical abstraction, which will reflect lived experiences broadcasted through artworks.
Interdisciplinary art creator Audra Vau started her career as a photographer, in 2000 she entered the world of contemporary art as a creator of photography and video art. The artist creates and works not only in Lithuania, but also throughout Europe, she is a film producer, art director and actress, one of the founders of the film festival "She Lives" in London.
Audra Vau has organized exhibitions in prestigious art galleries such as Christine König, Max Lust (Austria), 2015 her work was presented in a group exhibition curated by the Lewben Art Foundation during the Venice Biennale. Her work has been shown in Lithuania In the center of contemporary art, at the Jonas Mekos Visual Arts Center. In recent years, Audra Vau's works have been shown only fragmentarily in group exhibitions, video installations have also been presented at art fairs "ArtVilnius" and "ArtVerona" (Italy).
As stated by Sonata Baliuckaitė, the curator of the Meno Niša gallery, Audra Vau's exhibition "Nowhere" was planned to open last year, but it had to be postponed due to the pandemic. And although the concept of the exhibition was clear from the beginning, the content itself was constantly changing as the artist responded to changes in the environment, trying and discovering new techniques.
"Audra Vau reflects the environment very empathetically and sensitively, her work is full of human emotions, relationships, minimalistic, atmospheric works. And although for many she is better known as a photographer, her video creations and installation objects are no less relevant", said Sonata Baliuckaitė, curator of the exhibition, adding that recently Audra also presented video portraits of "Meno Niša" artists.
Audra Vau will present photographs, sculptures, light installations and video works at the third personal exhibition "Niekur". As the artist herself states, the title of the exhibition "Nowhere" is about the feeling when something leaves and is nowhere to be found. "The era, such as the Soviet era, when I was born, that country no longer exists; a person leaves - and he is nowhere to be found; the world and people, as they were before the pandemic, the way they were, will never be again...", says Audra Vau, emphasizing that in the exhibition she is not talking about negativity or loss, but about the poetry of feelings and sensations, like the state of weightlessness when you are only himself with himself.
"I am most attracted and excited by things that cannot be controlled or regulated by any system, norm or rule," concluded Audra Vau, inviting everyone to visit the exhibition from April 8 to 30. Audra Vau's exhibition project is financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture, sponsor of the Meno Niša gallery - Vilnius city municipality.
