On May 31, at 18 p.m., the long-awaited personal exhibition of the abstract paintings of Rūta Katiliūtė, laureate of the National Culture and Art Prize, "Shadows of the Clouds" will be opened in the Vilnius city gallery "Meno niša".
When asked why the exhibition is called "Shadows of Clouds", Rūta Katiliūtė said: "Everything happened when you got up high, where there are no earthly problems. The painter's pure gaze, where thought, color philosophy, my humanism, love and at the same time separation are important," said the artist.
Rūta Katiliūtė is a laureate of the National Culture and Art Prize, awarded in 2016 for the richness of her abstract painting. The artist created a distinctive and unique style of abstract painting, which received recognition in the context of Lithuania and Europe. Her style is recognisable, individual and exclusive. Space is captured in the artist's abstractions, she is an excellent colorist, very sensitive to color. Her works were presented at international art fairs and exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, Lithuania, in Latvia and in Austria.
As the curator of the exhibition, art critic Sonata Baliuckaitė, said, abstract art is an inexhaustible source of interpretations that constantly awakens the viewer's imagination. Just like R. Katiliūtė's latest exhibition, which will invite us all to rise above the clouds or simply stay in them. "The works of R. Katiliūtė presented in the exhibition resemble the shadows of clouds. However, the works were not painted according to the shadows of the clouds, but the other way around. For the artist, the shadows of the clouds reminded her of her works. You don't paint what you see, but you see what has already been painted", - this is how S. Baliuckaitė, the curator of "Meno niša", described the exhibition, adding that it is easiest to understand the artist's exhibition by thinking about the colors that create emotions, images and associations.
Through oil painting, R. Katiliūtė lets you experience all its color nuances, from white, ivory yellow, blue, gray to deep purple or dark blue hiding the green layers. In a minimalist style, but thanks to the many color nuances, layer by layer, the artist captures the vast space experienced through color and the painting itself. Regardless of whether it is huge canvases, miniatures or small paintings on paper, her works are meditative and natural, bringing you closer to the essence: not capturing water or clouds, but air, light, atmosphere.
In the exhibition "Shadows of the Clouds" you will be invited to travel through R. Katiliūtė's works as a metaphor of flight - flying from transparent, completely light, and gradually turning blue clouds to dark ones, which remind the artist of shadows. The exhibition will present the artist's works of various formats created over the past year. Part of the exposition of the exhibition will also be a kind of imitation of a studio, with the aim of transferring a part of the artist's cozy studio in the old town to the spaces of "Art Niša". "Cloud shadows" is a personal exhibition long awaited by all lovers of the artist's work; last time, the artist's works were presented in a personal exhibition in cooperation with "Meno niša" in the famous Riga gallery "Māksla XO" (2018), and her work is also actively presented in European art fairs and group exhibitions every year.
R. Katiliūtė's exhibition "Shadows of Clouds" will be open until August 11 at the Vilnius City Gallery "Art Niša".
