The Artistic Action Week: MAS'2025 festival will take place in Vilnius on September 22-27, 25. The festival invites people to speak on topics relevant to society and respond to the general discourse of this era. This is the fourth year of the artistic action festival organized by the independent contemporary dance organization "Be Kompanijos".
The free festival, held in public spaces in Vilnius, attracts not only contemporary art lovers but also a large number of casual spectators. Each year, the festival invites artists to respond to current issues, such as freedom of speech, gender equality, and social justice, using various art forms.
This year's festival theme is "Crisis as an Opportunity". A crisis is often perceived as a turning point, a challenge or even a threat. We are currently experiencing many different crises (threats of war, climate crisis, community disintegration, etc.). However, a crisis can also become an opportunity to change, find new solutions and rethink the world. In 2025, the festival's artistic events will invite us to look at the crisis as a space for creativity and change.
MAS'25 organizers invite artists to submit proposals for actions exploring the theme "Crisis as an opportunity" through four subthemes: War Crisis, Personal Crisis, Urban Future Crisis and Community Crisis. This year, four ideas will be selected and will receive 1200 euros (gross) of funding for their implementation. Proposals can be submitted until April 6th (inclusive).
“From the very beginning, MAS has been an important platform for us to talk about sensitive, sometimes marginalized topics and art forms. However, this year we feel that the emotional background of Lithuania is so charged that MAS is becoming a special phenomenon. We want to foster Western values as much as possible through the festival’s themes and approach and move away from Putinist and even Samogitian insularity,” says A. Lisičkinaitė
The MAS'25 program includes eight artistic actions. Four of them will be created specifically for the festival program. Four more ideas will be selected through an open call. Each artistic action will become a starting point for discussions - after each performance Opera Social House The space will host open conversations with artists and viewers.
