Today, Saturday, the 11th open architecture weekend "Open House Vilnius" begins. Like every year, the festival will invite you to explore architecture - on May 10-11, you can visit more than 50 objects, chat with city creators, and rediscover the city's green spaces.
The theme of this year's event is "Future Heritage", inviting us to look at today's architecture as tomorrow's history. Welcoming the guests at the opening of the festival, Solveiga Buoželytė, the project manager of "Open House Vilnius", presented the festival's news.
"When it comes to future heritage, we believe that in the future, greenness and sustainability can become heritage, which is why this year we have included four green spaces in the event program. Although at first glance it seems that these public spaces are accessible to each of us, I believe that when tours are led by volunteer guides and tell stories, these spaces can be experienced in a completely different way," said S. Buoželytė.
The team and guests of the eleventh festival were welcomed at the opening event by the Chief Architect of the City of Vilnius, Laura Kairienė.
"Today is a wonderful celebration, when we, with open hearts and open minds, open the doors to architectural objects and tell stories about architecture and the people who created it. This is a celebration of our entire open city of Vilnius, which delights with its results and creativity," said L. Kairienė.
During the opening event, guests saw a dance-circus performance created especially for the Open House Vilnius festival by artists Džiugas Kunsmanas and Pepe Jaimes, accompanied by cellist Vaiva Sodaitytė. This performance will also be available during the event weekend.
This year, visitors to the festival will be able to visit more than 50 objects, including 11 newcomers. After last year's success, the organizers of the event will once again invite you to visit the offices of city developers, where you will have the opportunity to directly communicate with the professionals who create the city - architects, urban planners, city planners. Visitors are also invited to participate in artistic activities and performances.
For the first time, the festival program will also feature green urban spaces. During the event weekend, tours of green urban spaces will take place in the Bernardine Garden, the Sei Shin En Japanese Garden,Business Garden Vilnius" complex and in New City, where the transformation of the district's streets will be presented.
The tours at the event are led by volunteer guides, who are an integral part of the event's success. This year, almost 500 volunteers will assist in the event. The tours will be held in Lithuanian, English, Ukrainian and sign languages. All tours will be free of charge and admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
