The contemporary jazz and improvisational music festival "Vilnius Jazz" will start in the capital on Thursday.
This is one of the oldest music festivals, it will be held for the 35th time.
"It is symbolic that it will take place no longer in the Russian theater, but in the old theater in Vilnius. Conjuring the most interesting figures of free jazz and improvisational music in Europe and the world, "Vilnius Jazz" embodied the uncompromising pursuit of freedom and courage at all times, and proved that music can be more eloquent than words," say the organizers.
Among this year's guests, they single out the Ukrainian pianist Vadim Neselovsky's project "Odesa - a musical walk around the legendary city".
"He will invite you on a journey full of memories, historical associations and dreams around the musician's native Odessa, which today is being ravaged by the occupiers," the report states.
This year, "Vilnius Jazz" also features a project by Hamid Drake, one of the most outstanding percussionists of today, American, dedicated to pianist, organist, harpist, author of books Alice Coltrane (1937-2007).
According to the organizers, this project brought together selected jazz talents from France, Portugal, Norway and Italy.
The trio of British jazz pianist Alexander Hawkins will share the latest ideas on the festival stage.
The 35th festival also promises an impressive panorama of Lithuanian avant-garde and improvisational music - from the experiments of the youngest generation to the projects of the Lithuanian jazz elite.
"Vilnius Jazz" is the oldest annual Vilnius jazz festival, organized since 1987.
