"Go out to the yard!" is a phrase that takes many of us back to childhood summers, when these words were associated with the funnest days and became the first words uttered when knocking on the door of a neighbor's house or calling out to a friend through an open window. A new one also offers to go out into the yard Vilnius city municipalities a project that invites you to immerse yourself in a game-journey around the districts of Vilnius city.
The project, launched on the occasion of International Children's Day, consists of paper publications and games for children aged 6-10 with routes of city districts, thanks to which the environment can be explored by performing fun tasks. The project will invite children to go on fun adventures in the city, encourage them to show their observation and thinking, as well as to remember and deepen their knowledge about various objects and to be interested in their area.
"The routes of the project "Go to the yard" will be of interest not only to children, but also to the whole family. This initiative becomes another great way to get to know the city of Vilnius, especially since this year we were really forced to spend a lot of time at home", says the mayor of the city of Vilnius Remigius Šimašius.
Andrius Jakučionis, co-author of the creative solutions of "Išeik į kiēmas" together with the design agency "Critical", says that the idea for the name of the project came from vivid memories. When screen devices did not require full attention, and the phrase "Go to the yard" shouted by friends became the funnest moment of the day. "It was always clear that there would be adventures, games and speculations waiting for us when we went outside. The yard often expanded to the whole district, where you knew well all the nooks and crannies, passages and all the most interesting things, so with this project we want to invite the townspeople to get to know the city on a more intimate, local scale. To travel smaller distances, but to notice more details and interesting things", says Andrius.
Žvērynas and New town, taking into account the fact that more and more young families live and move here. Different concepts of tasks for children will be waiting on the routes of these microdistricts. Here, on the "Go to the Yard in the Zoo" route, children will play a sequence game in which various tasks will be discovered only by following the directions on the route. Hikers will start the route at the Vingis Park bridge, and while traveling through different streets, they will have to answer questions related to the environment around them.
Meanwhile, “Go out into the yard in New City"a real letter detective awaits on the route, which, when solved, will lead to the answer to a question related to 1925-1939. The largest radio equipment factory in the Vilnius region operated in New Town. Using the coordinates indicated on the route, the adventurers will find various objects that resemble the shape of one or another letter, and by collecting the letters, they will try to solve the riddle of New Town. The prepared publication includes numbered boxes below the main question to write the letters, so this will ensure that the letters do not get lost along the way!
More routes will appear in different districts of Vilnius during the "Go to the Yard" project, and you can find the current publications of Žvērynas and Naujamiestis at the Vilnius Tourism Information Center, Pilies st. 2 and in various parts of the capital.
