LNDT will start the season with the performances "Shopping and Fucking" and "Slowed Down"

The Lithuanian National Drama Theater presents the news of the 80th season. While the reconstruction of the theater is still in progress, LNDT will continue to present performances in various spaces in Vilnius and other cities. LNDT dedicates the new season to the thirtieth anniversary of freedom, intends to present premieres adapted to smaller spaces and invites to examine the themes of freedom.

30 years of freedom

"As we enter the 80th season, we want to ask - hasn't our freedom become rhetorical in thirty years?" Isn't endless choices and the reluctance to choose a clear idea, a specific position the ideology of today? In running away from one ideology, haven't we found ourselves in the grip of another ideology? This new ideology, characterized by the avoidance of moral dilemmas and the demand to have one common historical truth, which would be accepted without reservation by all Lithuanian residents, is built on the foundation of fear. <…>

This season, we invite you to watch the performances and discuss them by accepting different points of view, without trying to reduce them to one indivisible truth. We invite you to discuss the dilemmas of moral choice that arise during tectonic shifts in the public consciousness, such as the recent discussion about newly drawn boundaries in the space of male and female relations, power and disability, system and person, public and private," says LNDT CEO Martynas Budraitis. .

A new interpretation of Shopping and Fucking

November 6 the theater will invite you to the first premiere of the season - the performance "Shopping and Fucking". The classic play by the British writer Mark Ravenhill, which was staged in Lithuania by Oskars Koršunovas in 1999 (it was the first premiere of OKT/Vilnius City Theatre), talks about the marginals of the XNUMXs Great Britain, stuck in marginal situations. There, it seems, there is no other option but to steal and surrender. The theater offered a new interpretation of the famous work to the young director Antanas Obcarskas. He invited the playwright Laurynas Adomaitis with whom he created "Voiceka" for joint work. For this performance, Antanas Obcarskas was nominated for the "Golden Stage Cross" in the Young Artist category.

A. Obcarskas and L. Adomaitis move the characters of "Shopping and Fucking" from the margins to the epicenter of rich city life. There's money, but nothing earth-shattering, brutal or fundamental is happening. The street is calm, colorful, it seems that the future seen in the utopian movies has already approached. Four characters are stuck in the grip of youth, rebelling against the idea of their own comfortable lives. How will we live when the good life starts to wear off? What will you have to lie about and how to find love in the face of that lie? What to offer her?

The play "Shopping and Fucking" will feature Kęstutis Cicėnas, Greta Petrovskytė, Vainius Sodeika, Rimantė Valiukaitė, Aistė Zabotkaitė, the premiere will take place at the club "Kablys+kultura" (Kauno st. 5, Vilnius).

What is freedom in the workplace?

The second season of LNDT's 80th season premieres on December 5. In the National Art Gallery (Konstitucijos pr. 22). This is the performance "Slow down" by the famous Polish director Anna Smolar, which examines human relations in the working environment. Anna Smolar is an experienced creator of documentary performances, a graduate of literary studies at the Sorbonne University in Paris, one of the most interesting representatives of the new generation of contemporary Polish theater. In 2017, during the "Versmės" festival, she led a creative workshop on collective writing.

The creators of the show "Slow Down" are interested in the consequences of abusing a high position. Could it be that the degree of abuse an employee has experienced is related to their position in the company or role in society?

The creators of the show investigate various professional groups: journalists, doctors, employees of cultural institutions. The dramaturgy written by Michał Buszewicz will be based on personal experiences and stories. Monika Bičiūnaitė, Gailė Butvilaitė, Martynas Nedzinskas, Miglė Polikevičiūtė, Gediminas Rimeika, Rytis Saladžius will play in the performance "Sulėtintai".

Shows shown 30 years ago

Commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of freedom, the theater invites you to remember the performances that were shown immediately before and immediately after the Renaissance. This is "The Awakening", dir. Jonas Vaitkus,, and "There to be here", dir. Oskar Korshunov, and many others. The calendar of the LNDT website compares today's performances and 30 years ago. By clicking on the name of the old play, the visitor gets to its detailed description in the LNDT archive Teatroteka.lt. This is a valuable theater archive where visitors can find descriptions, programs, posters, photos and other material of Lithuanian National Drama Theater performances that are no longer shown (since 1940). The platform created by the LNDT initiative is expected to be relevant not only for representatives of this theater, but for the entire field. The theater invites the audience to actively use it.

LNDT will constantly share interesting facts about how the theater worked 30 years ago, what events accompanied the actors and the audience on its Facebook account. These facts will be available under the hashtag #lndtpries30metu.

In addition, viewers can expect a series of exclusive interviews. Interviewees interviewed by theater expert Daiva Šabasevičienė will share their memories from the premieres and theater life in the podcasts.

Hamburg Thalia tours in Vilnius and others events

At the end of November, the second performance of Marina Davydova awaits the audience in Vilnius. In the spring, "Eternal Russia" brought from Berlin was shown in the spaces of "Art Press", and on November 22 and 23, the second part of the diptych - "Checkpoint Woodstock" - will be brought to Lithuania. It premiered in April at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Spectators who have saved "Eternal Russia" tickets after submitting them will receive 20%. discount to Checkpoint Woodstock. In Vilnius, the performance will be shown only twice, due to Checkpoint Woodstock, LNDT will briefly let the audience into the Big Stage.

Readings of the contemporary dramaturgy festival "Versmė" will traditionally take place in autumn (November 9-14). In addition, the renewed "Talks NOT about the theater" will return to the audience, the first discussion is on September 26.

Premieres of the second half of the year

In the second half of the season, at the beginning of 2020, a premiere about the writer Žemaitė will be presented. The play for this performance was written by Sigitas Parulskis, the author of the idea is actress Jolanta Dapkūnaitė, who will also play the main character. The audience will also see Kęstutis Cicėnas, Airidas Gintautaitė and Salvijės Trepulis on stage. The director of the play is Agnius Jankevičius.

In the second half of the year, the premiere of a biographical performance about Marių Repšis is planned. The documentary play will be directed by Marius' brother Mantas Jančiauskas, who presented the plays "Dreamland" and "Laimės republikaje" at LNDT. The dramaturgy for the play is created by Rimantas Ribačiauskas, the author of several documentary plays.

The works of the winners of the LNDT Young Developers Program competition - Karolis Vilkas and Motiejas Ivanauskas - will also be shown. K. Vilkas will present the performance "Mēnesiena" based on art theater, and Motiejus Ivanauskas is planning a performance based on "Dialogues" written by Plato.
