March 7 and 8 at 18:30 p.m. Vilnius University (VU) Drama Theatre and VU Culture Centre invite you to a new performance "The Promised One", directed by Felicija Feiferė. This is an unconventional look at William Shakespeare's legendary tragedy "Romeo and Juliet", which explores not only the stories of the young lovers, but also the world around them, their secrets and inevitable signs of fate.
Director Felicija Feiferė explores not only the theme of love in this production, but also the hidden layers of history that shape the characters' destinies. According to her, in "The Promised One", it is important to notice not only the words of the characters, but also the recurring details, silences and hints that betray deeper meanings.
"The old feuds between the Montagues and Capulets, stemming from an unknown but irresponsible initial action, have disrupted the centuries-old harmony. No one even remembers their cause. The creators of the play tried to decipher the meaning of the strange phrases repeated in the play. Signs of fate were everywhere, but not all of them were read," the director intrigues.
Vilnius University Drama Theatre actors bring classics to life on stage, combining the nuances of psychological theatre with visual cues and symbols. The creators of the performance use not only traditional dramaturgy, but also video projections, choreography and fight scenes, created by a professional creative team.
According to theatre expert Dr. Daiva Šabasevičienė, this interpretation highlights a new perspective: "Director Felicija Feifera was concerned with showing how in life a person becomes not only a victim of tragedy, but also a perpetrator. There is little love in this play, but Shakespeare also approaches love through constant struggle. There are many scenes in the play that remain in the memory like living pictures, and sometimes even resemble film frames. As the finale approaches, the play gains dynamics, expression, and transparency."
You can see the performance "The Promised One" on March 7 and 8 at 18:30 PM at the VU Theatre Hall. This is a great opportunity to relive a legendary story, the secrets of which will be revealed to attentive and engaged viewers.
