This Saturday, Vilnius Old Theater will be the venue for a unique event - a dance and live music performance Boléro-Extended, which brings a whole new perspective to Maurice Ravel's legendary piece, Boléro!
"This performance is truly special, born from a long-standing friendship and collaboration with the Danish Dance Theater and one of Denmark's most prominent choreographers, Palle Granhøj. Working with this choreographer really grew both the dancers and the troupe itself! This choreographer is able to reveal the human image and global themes, raise deep questions. "Boléro-Extended", the musical theme is revealed in a very playful and multifaceted manner, here interpretations of such a well-known piece sound completely unexpected," says Agnija Šeiko, founder and artistic director of the Šeiko Dance Theater.
"Boléro-Extended" is an hour-long creative journey presented on stage by the Šeikos Dance Theater and the Klaipėda Cello Octet. It is performed in Vilnius only once a year! The sounds of the cello, starting with one and growing to the sound of eight instruments, create a unique atmosphere. Meanwhile, the movements of the dancers, choreographed by the internationally acclaimed Danish creator Palle Granhøj, will convey an emotional gallery of human portraits, revealing the personality of each dancer.
Palle Granhøj uses an "obstruction technique" that restricts the dancers' movements, allows their inner worlds to be revealed, and interestingly combines the language of contemporary dance with the sound of classical music. In this performance, the choreographer aims to show real, complex men and women that go beyond the usual aesthetics of a dance performance.
This unique interpretation of "Boléro" was born in cooperation between the Klaipėda Cello Octet and the Šeikos Dance Theater. Mindaugas Bačkas, the initiator and artistic director of the ensemble, had the idea of performing M. Ravel's work live with only cellos. This ensemble's musical experiments and long-term collaboration with dancers became the basis for an impressive interdisciplinary work.
The show's choreographer, Palle Granhøj, has created more than 40 dance performances and worked with music classics such as Igor Stravinsky and Gustav Mahler. Audiences have seen his works in 49 countries around the world. Previous performances of Boléro-Extended have received rave reviews, with critics highlighting the work's originality, emotional depth and aesthetic ease.
Don't miss the opportunity to see this mesmerizing piece that merges the worlds of dance and music into one harmonious whole. December 7, Vilnius Old Theater - at the "Boléro-Extended" meeting!
