The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre is holding the final rehearsals for the premiere of this season. The performance, based on Laurynas Adomaitis' new play "Fermentation", is directed by Antanas Obcarskas, one of the artistic directors of the LNDT. The main roles in the comic performance are played by Giedrius Savickas, Martynas Nedzinskas, Teklė Baroti, Vaidilė Juozaitytė, Vaiva Mainelytė and Vytautas Anužis. The premiere is scheduled for April 10, 11, 12 in the LNDT Great Hall.

A biological revolution is taking place at the center of "Fermentation". In a small gastropub selling fermented products, the good bacteria stop working and no products are fermented anymore. The manager of the fermenter, Danilas, who has spent his entire life among bacteria, suddenly hears their voice...

The fermentation process is vital to humans, but the rights of bacteria sound absurd. Will Danilas be able to make people empathize with another - an alien species and its needs? First of all, he will have to convince two members of the tannery syndicate - Fatima and Jie, who view the crisis much more pragmatically. This story is a test of empathy for people.

Laurynas Adomaitis wrote this play while living in Paris. He is creating his fourth play with Antanas Obcarskas – before that, he presented “Voiceka”, “Alice” and “Boxing”. For the play for the play “Alice”, Laurynas Adomaitis was awarded the “Golden Stage Cross” in the category of a New Artist. “I have no doubt that “Fermentation” is Laurynas’s strongest work so far. Complete, funny, philosophical,” Antanas Obcarskas is convinced.

"This is my most real-life play. The idea for "Fermentation" was born when I moved to live in the eleventh arrondissement of Paris. There was a tannery with a charismatic manager on my street. Many details in the play are taken from the secret rooms of that tannery, homemade cider, vegetables that never ferment, and an unapologetic attitude to life. It is truly the perfect place for ideas to ferment - short working hours, delicious food, lunch together. As far as I know, more than one person from the creative team has already visited "Fermentation Générale" on Voltaire Boulevard. The performance will definitely feel freedom, experimentation, laughter, and good taste," says the author of the play, Laurynas Adomaitis.

The tannery manager Danila will be played by Giedrius Savickas, the actresses Teklė Baroti and Vaidilė Juozaitytė who work with him will alternately play Fatima, the mysterious character Jie will be created by Martynas Nedzinskas, the role of bacteria will be played by Vytautas Anužis, and Vaiva Mainelytė and Ramutis Rimeikis will play the couple Sofija and her husband Gėlytė who live next to the tannery. The courier will be alternately played by actors Algirdas Gradauskas and Arūnas Sakalauskas, the performance will also feature Augustė Ona Šimulynaitė, Adrija Čepaitė, Vytautas Rumšas, and Deivydas Valenta.

"Fermentation is the conditions that allow change. It's not just about cabbage or cheese, it's also about people. To ferment is to change. Every day we promise ourselves to change, and cabbage actually does it. I want to change in my life, I want to look for a more diverse recipe for life, I want to cultivate myself like a garden. But in the end, I'm just trying to realize what's happening to me - that's what fermentation is. Time will tell whether I'm fermenting for the better or for the worse," the director says about the themes of the performance.

The scenography of "Fermentation" is created by Lauryna Liepaitė, a long-time creative collaborator of Antanas Obcarskas, a laureate of two "Golden Stage Crosses", and the costumes are created by Juozas Valenta, who is also collaborating on this performance. The composers of this performance are Vidmantas Čepkauskas and Philipp Lauer. The choreography of "Fermentation" is by Mantas Stabačinskas, who has also been awarded the "Golden Stage Cross" award several times, the author of the video projections is Ričard Žigis, the lighting designer is Dainius Urbonis, and the producer is Lukrecija Gužauskaitė.

"Fermentation, when viewed from a spiritual perspective, makes a person more forgiving, more able to understand and accept things that happen in a deceptive world. There are many things that one may not like, many things one may not accept, but essentially fermented things cure cancer and inflammation. The key word in recent years is "inflammation". Physical, spiritual, transnational, cybernetic. Fermentation is a cure for inflammation," says director Antanas Obcarskas.

The premiere of "Fermentation" is scheduled for April 10, 11, and 12 at the Great Hall of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre.
