Last theater season, the cancellation of the long-awaited performance "Tartiufas" at the Lithuanian National Drama Theater was probably the biggest disappointment in the theater world. Almost two thousand spectators returned their tickets, got their money back and did not see the long-awaited performance. Various versions were heard in the public, one of them was that the performance was allegedly canceled due to government censorship, which was resorted to because of the extremely bold declarations of the director. Whether this is true, the audience will soon be able to see for themselves, because after long deliberations, it has been decided to return the performance to the LNDT Grand Stage.
In the first days of September, Oskar Koršunov presented a shocking premiere based on British playwright Sara Kane's play "The Cleaned Ones" at the Oslo National Theater and immediately after that he returned to Vilnius to create "Tartiufo" and rehearse "Kakinio" with new actress Beata Tiškevič.
"So it turned out that after successfully reaching the finish line in Norway, I jumped to the next finish line in Lithuania. All the theater employees are in an equally enviable situation: technicians, service staff, some actors, because having just released the premiere "The Bear", which required a lot of work, they are rushing to another equally challenging performance of the Great Hall, the premiere of which will be held very soon.
In less than a month, we are trying to reanimate Tartiuf, who died suddenly. There were doubts whether he would be able to be revived after such a long coma. But now it seems that the corpse comes to life and even starts dancing. In fact, everyone - both actors and theater workers - longed for "Tartiufo" and it can be seen in the work now. We rehearse during days and nights. This time they are determined not to disappoint the audience.
From the beginning, Tartuffe and Moliere were chosen as material suitable for the "total" theater. Such a big ambition just ran out of time last time. Now it becomes clear that the right thing was done in postponing the premiere. We simply wouldn't have been able to implement all the ideas. Now there is hope, and the audience will be rewarded in abundance," says director Oskars Koršunovas.
On Monday, September 18, the Lithuanian National Drama Theater announced that "Tartiufas" will be shown in the 78th season and started selling tickets for the performance.
