On November 4, the Lithuanian National Drama Theater will present a new premiere of "#beskambučio", which will not take place on the stage of the theater, but at the Vilnius Salomejas Nėries Gymnasium. The play is created by actor and director Paulius Tamolė, who this time decided to talk about the modern school, students and their problems. The performance is intended for both schoolchildren and adults.
"With this play, I'm looking for an answer, where in our education system is that dog buried?" It is publicly escalated that the school "aims to educate a creative person", that "we need a creative society" or similar, on the other hand, standardized tests and exams are placed on the delicate shoulders of those creative people, turning them into a gray mass. These people seem to be sifted through a certain meat grinder, which destroys any creativity. The question is, why is that?” - thinks the director Paulius Tamolė.
The author of the play is the young playwright Augustas Sireikis, last year his play about schoolchildren "Act Class" was presented at the LNDT "Versmės" dramaturgy festival. "#beskambučio" is also created by set designer Lauryna Liepaitė, composer Agnė Matulevičiūtė and a diverse team of actors: Diana Anevičiūtė, Povilas Budrys, Jolanta Dapkūnaitė, Laurynas Jurgelis, Jurga Kalvaitytė, Justina Nemanytė, Kamilė Petruškevičiūtė, Augustė Pociūtė, Gediminas Rimeika, Salvijus Trepulis, Oskar Vygonovski, Arūnas Vozbutas. The actors will also share their personal stories while traveling with the audience through the school corridors.
"Problems at school spread to other areas as well: to workplaces, to the entire society, and also to the theater. The employer becomes a metaphor for the call. As long as the employer does not scream at us, we do not show initiative, and if he does, we understand that we need to do something. The problem of the school lives very successfully in other spheres as well. I consider the combination of these topics to be my main task. We will talk about what we, the actors/creators, care about, but we will dress the performance in school clothes, the school "form". The experience will remain our own. It will be the foundation on which the whole performance should be born. And "robes" - those corridors, paths through which we will travel towards the axis, towards the final result, will be a real school, where professional actors will act", - says Paulius Tamolė, - we use the name "#beskambučio" as a metaphor. The call (now it's fashionable to replace it with a nice melody, but, I'm sure, it doesn't change the essence) both calls you to the lesson and lets you out of the lesson. And we ask, what would happen if he didn't exist? For example, there is no bell in Scandinavian countries, there are also several Lithuanian schools that successfully live without a bell. But why is it still heard in many Lithuanian schools? I understand why it rang in the Soviet era, because society was being educated to go to work in factories (work started and ended after the calls). But now everything has changed, and the calls remain."
The creators emphasize that although the play will take place in schools, it is certainly not intended only for school communities. The biggest wish of the theater is that teenagers come to this performance with their parents. According to the creators of "#beskambučios", with the performance, they aim to arouse community spirit, the desire to work together and do even simple things together, for example, turning off the call.
"#bezkambučio" will be shown only in schools. In Vilnius, the permanent residence of the performance is the Salomeja Nėries gymnasium, tickets can be purchased at the LNDT box office or online at www.tiketa.lt. Later, the performance will go on a tour of Lithuania. November 14 will be shown in Visaginas, "Verdenė" gymnasium, on November 22. - Alytus St. Benedikta Gymnasium, December 6. – at the Lithuanian Millennium Gymnasium in Šalčininkai, December 8. – Nemenčinė Gediminas Gymnasium. In these cities, tickets for the performances will be available at the box offices of cultural centers or schools.
