Rehearsals of a new play for children aged 4-7 have begun at the Lithuanian National Drama Theater. Director Giedrė Kriaučionytė is creating the premiere about friendship and learning to accept those who think differently, "Trijulis upko koh" and will present it to the audience already in May. This is part of the Young Developers Program run by LNDT.
"In Lithuania, there is a great lack of children's performances that would be interesting for adults to watch as well. The wonderful multi-layered text of the German playwright Carsten Brandau tells about our society through the simplest mathematical actions, the rhythm of his language and the playfulness of meanings will be able to be enjoyed by any viewer, no matter what his age. We really believe in this young and ambitious team of young theater creators, their enthusiasm and creativity are simply simmering", says Kristina Savickienė, head of the art department of LNDT.
The play "Three Upside Down" tells the story of two friends who have their usual routine, which is disturbed by the sudden appearance of a third person. Whether to accept him to play or to follow the new rules - two friends are at a loss...
"The monk, who is always first, and Dudulis, who is always second, rule the world because they know how to count. However, they only count up to two, so they do not accept the third as friends. The trio whistles in sequence. He deliberately mixes up the sequence of numbers, thus turning the world upside down. The world turns upside down as all three rage, until Trijuli finally asks Vienulis and Dudulis: "You keep saying: I'm first, I'm second, but first and second - whose?" Who are you? Who are you?” - says the director Giedrė Kriaučionytė and adds, - by freely and comically playing with words, space, linguistic repetitions and the sequence of numbers, a mildly ironic and at the same time Beckettian story is created about the most essential things: who am I, who are you and how can we live together?"
"Upside down trio" teaches you to accept someone who is different, thinks differently, looks at the world differently, but wants to be friends. "How easily and how many rules we create, which distance us so much from ourselves, from who we really are. For man is much more chaos than order or system. Man by nature is much more like a bird whistling in the sky in confusion than a defined mathematical system. So this performance is for everyone over the age of four", says the director.
Kirilas Glušajevas, Marius Čižauskas, Jovita Jankelaitytė play in the play. The artists of the performance are Antanas Dubra and Vladas Suncovas, the composer is Karolina Kapustaitė.
Carsten Brandau's plays "Upside down triangle" and "Sky and hands" in 2017. were presented at the "Readings of Contemporary Dramaturgy" organized by LNDT. The play "The upside-down triangle" has been awarded the "Mlheimer Kindercke" and the "Kaas & Kappes" children's and youth literature competition.
The premiere of the children's play "Three upside down" will take place at LNDT Studio on May 24, 25. 10 o'clock and May 26 12 o'clock
