The fourth edition of the "30 Best Restaurants" election has started. During a special event, the Academy of Good Food together with the main partner of the project, the tableware and interior brand iittala, announced a short list of restaurants from which over 100 members of the Academy of Good Food will choose their favorites for 2019.
In the short list of 60 restaurants, there is an obvious expansion of the project beyond the borders of Viniaus and even 12 geographical locations throughout Lithuania. Three more award news were also announced during the press conference.
"The restaurant business is very dynamic, so every year we have newcomers to the market and those that have to be eliminated. However, there are those who are not included restaurant concept, but are bright and worthy of attention. There are also people without whom the Lithuanian gastronomy would be much worse. For this reason, there were news in the project", Linas Petrukaitis, founder of the Academy of Good Food.
Everyone will be able to cast their vote
During a special lunch at "Dziaugsme", recognized as the best restaurant in Lithuania last year, the Council of the Good Food Academy presented the news of this year's project.
So far, only the top 30 restaurants have been selected for three consecutive years. This year, it was decided to create several special nominations that would more widely appreciate the creators of food culture in Lithuania.
"The restaurant business is completely dependent on people's work and their talents. Therefore, during the "30 best restaurants" awards this year, for the first time, an assessment for merits to Lithuanian gastronomy will be awarded", said Evalda Šiškauskienė, president of the Lithuanian Hotel and Restaurant Association and member of the board of the Good Food Academy, during the press conference.
Also this year, the Council of the Academy of Good Food presented the second award - to a catering establishment that does not fall under the definition of a restaurant, but during the year made a strong contribution to the diversity of Lithuanian gastronomy.
Finally, the long-awaited "people's choice" nomination will be fulfilled. Until now, while maintaining the highest possible quality standard, the country's restaurants have been evaluated by an academy consisting of industry professionals (sommeliers, chefs, food bloggers, writers, etc.). However, this year, restaurant visitors will also be able to vote for their favorite restaurant from the short list.
The most representative restaurant guide in Lithuania
Voting for the "30 Best Restaurants" within the Academy has already begun, and the results from the 30th place will begin to be announced at the end of May, with the award ceremony scheduled for the end of June, after the "World's 50 Best Restaurants" awards.
These restaurant ratings take place all over the world, with some countries having their own restaurant ratings. In Lithuania, such a project is taking place for the fourth time and is gaining more and more popularity not only in Lithuania, but also abroad - it often becomes a guide for guests coming to our country.
The elections are organized by the Academy of Good Food together with the Lithuanian Hotel and Restaurant Association, the Association of Head Chefs and Confectioners of Lithuanian Restaurants and the magazine Geras Skonis.
The dissemination of "30 best restaurants" abroad is carried out in cooperation with the tourism promotion agency "Travel in Lithuania".
