On the occasion of the World Food Day celebrated on October 16, the Lithuanian retail chain "Maxima"decided to find out what kind of food is the tastiest for her customers. The survey of buyers revealed that Lithuanian taste receptors recognize Lithuanian cuisine the best, and the most recognized dish is zeppelins.
"Tasty food brings a lot of joy to everyone. Food that tastes good to us is, first of all, fresh. However, it is no less important that it is diverse, meets needs, sometimes surprises, develops taste, encourages the discovery of new sensations while tasting - after all, what you want that day depends on your mood," reveals Aidas Polenins, director of Maximos' food production department.
The freshness of the food is also the most appreciated by Maximos customers - as many as 63% named it as the most important feature of delicious food. survey participants. Almost a quarter of the respondents stated that it is important for them that the food is healthy. Others are most concerned about satiety, delicious smell and aesthetic appearance.
Zeppelins are the tastiest for adults, pancakes for children
When asked about the cuisine of which country or region is the most delicious to them, more than half (52%) of the respondents chose Lithuanian cuisine without hesitation. Almost a fifth of the respondents like Italian products the most, another 8 percent. - Chinese. The cuisines of other countries or regions have gained much less popularity.
So it's no wonder that when asked what dish first comes to mind when someone says "delicious food", zeppelins are at the top of the list - they were chosen by as many as 24%. survey participants. Not far behind them was steak (steak), which 18% like the most. respondents, and the third and fourth places are shared fish (12%) and stew (11%).
The list, in which people named one of their tastiest dishes, also included pizza, salads, cold cuts, various sweets, pasta, and soups. By the way, the tastiest food for several respondents is bacon.
According to parents, their children's favorite dishes are pancakes (24% of respondents with children indicated this), pasta (16%), meatballs, fruits and vegetables (11% each).
Dinner is tastier than breakfast
Lithuanian habits also differ when cooking at home: 42 percent. they usually change traditional dishes on the stoves, and a third classify themselves as experimenters, constantly looking for new recipes. One in five prefers practicality - they choose quick meals.

The Maximos survey confirmed that what is healthy and useful is not always tasty. Experts in healthy nutrition often emphasize that the most important meal of the day is breakfast - a fifth of the respondents agree with this, but only 7%. they claim that breakfast is also the tastiest for them. More than 40% named lunch as the most important and tastiest meal. respondents. 17 percent consider dinner important. of the survey participants, even 24% think it is the tastiest. "Maxima" buyers.
"Despite the fact that breakfast is the second most important meal of the day, we assume that people rush to work in the morning and do not have time to prepare really tasty meals for them. Lunch is important and delicious, because for most people it is a short escape from the worries of the day. And dinner takes more time - so even if they understand that they should pay more attention to breakfast, our customers tend to treat themselves more in the evenings", comments A. Polenin.
The best cook is seen in the mirror
Lithuanians consider themselves to be really good cooks - even 53% named themselves as the person who cooks the tastiest food in the family. survey participants. Food prepared by the second half is most liked by a fifth of the respondents, another 14 percent. most appreciate the dishes cooked by their mother, while only a few percent of Maximos' customers appreciated the culinary talents of their daughter, son, grandmother, mother-in-law or father.
It is true that the majority of women participated in the survey, who are more often responsible for keeping family members fed.
The taste of food is not only added by the freshness of the products or spices, but also by the company. Even 38 percent of those interviewed confirmed that food tastes better to them when eating with family or friends. Lithuanians also prefer to eat when they are very hungry (24%), in nature or on vacation (17%).
When the respondents were asked about their favorite taste, it turned out that more than a third (35%) liked sweet the most, a quarter liked salty, and they chose other tastes less often.
