In the beginning, having only a very simple and only function - to conveniently serve water for use - in the long run, fountains turned into a favorite element of architecture and decoration in mansions, parks and city squares. With the advent of water pumps, fountains shot to new heights. For example, the world's highest fountain located in Saudi Arabia waters shoots up to a height of 260 meters! Meanwhile, the height of the highest fountain in Lithuania, Zaras Lake, reaches 30 meters. Modern technologies have turned fountains into special works of art combining water dance, lights, and music. According to the company that designs and installs fountains in Lithuania UAB "Poolservice. Lt" director Mantvydas Šakalys - "currently efforts are being made to modify the fountains in such a way that the observer can control them himself and receive feedback, rather than being observed". Such interactive fountains are already operating in Vilnius Lukiškiai square, Palanga, Elektrėnai, and soon Kaunas and Raseiniai will be decorated with new interactive fountains. Interactive projections on the water will be used in the already installed fountain in Raseiniai. This will be the first fountain of this type in Lithuania, which is planned to be opened already this August.
The first fountains in Lithuania were installed during the Renaissance in Verkii and Palanga manors. Many of them appeared in various urban spaces during the Soviet era. And recently, fountains have again become a fashionable element of urban architecture and an attraction for both their residents and guests. "A fountain is a symbol of well-being, so it is natural that as the quality of life increases, the number of fountains in Lithuania increases," says M. Šakalys. Currently, more than 100 of the most interesting fountains operating in various public spaces of Lithuania are marked on the tourism map of the travel portal pamatykLietuvoje.lt. There are many more fountains in Lithuania, so the map continues to be filled.
