Vilnius celebrates Dr. Jonas Basanavičius' birthday (photos)

November 23 is special - on this day we celebrate the patriarch of the nation Dr. Jonas Basanavičius' birthday. In commemoration of this day, the mayor of the capital Remigius Šimašius tied thirty balloons in the colors of the Lithuanian flag to the monument of the nation's patriarch. Another gift has also been prepared - specially from the balcony of the Philharmonic, the trumpet player of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Dovas Lietuvnikas, performed two pieces by Juoz Naujalis: "Youth Song" and "Dear Lietuva".

"30 balloons in the colors of the Lithuanian flag to the patriarch of the nation - a birthday gift from Vilnius. Jonas Basanavičius not only mobilized the nation, but also did not leave Vilnius in the most difficult times. And he would really be happy with today's free Lithuania. I believe that this bright gift, symbolizing joy, will also inspire the people of Vilnius in the future, when we will be able to safely gather again and create a new city tradition", congratulated Vilnius City Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.

Vilnius city municipality invites you to mention dr. J. Basanavičius' birthday and to visit not only his sculpture in front of the National Philharmonic, but also to come to other places related to the nation's patriarch: the House of Signatories, the eternal resting place in the Old Rasa Cemetery, other objects in the city.

Those who want to today can also take a walk around the other, perhaps less well-known, with dr. Places related to J. Basanavičius - Domaševičius st. 9 (New Town Council) house, where in 1920−1927 lived J. Basanavičius. Here in 1967 to perpetuate his memory, a memorial plaque was attached to the main facade of the house. Latako str. 1/2 (Old Town Council) - where the nation's patriarch lived for ten years with breaks, and a memorial board can be found on the building itself. Dr. Place of death of J.
