Already today, the 34th "Food bank" action. During it, thousands of volunteers will invite store visitors to buy food products, which will be handed over to the people of Lithuania who live in a more difficult situation. It is estimated that 319 different Lithuanian non-governmental organizations will participate in the spring campaign of "Food Bank" and collect support for the people under their care, the collection of support will take place in 69 different areas of Lithuania, in 358 stores.
Traditionally, only long-life food products are requested to be donated during the campaign. Organizations collecting support emphasize that those in need usually ask for it, and currently organizations lack oil, preserves and flour the most. The charity and support fund organizing the campaign "Food bank” encourages donors to find out which organization collects support in the store they visit and to design support baskets according to the profile of the organization. "If the organizations caring for the elderly or the disabled usually ask for oil or canned food, then the children's day care centers are most happy with dry breakfast. Therefore, we strongly invite the buyers of retail chains to find out which organization collects support in the store and what specifically they need the most. This can be asked of the volunteers handing out flyers, as well as the names of our partner organizations will be hung on the carts at the support collection points, this information is also published on our website," says Simonas Gurevičius, head of Maisto bankas.
Last year, the food donated during the spring and autumn actions of "Maisto bankas" was distributed to 67 people - senior citizens, disabled people, families caring for children, refugees from the war and those living in Lithuania for Ukrainians, large families, single parents. Representatives of the charity and support fund "Maisto bankas" hope that this year too, with the food donated by people, it will be possible to help a similar number of needy people.
