Ethnocultural classes have been formed in Balsias pro-gymnasium since its foundation. The aim to preserve the values of the ancestors, not to forget one's roots, to know the history of one's land - one of the educational goals of these classes.
Nurturing the traditions of the elders, ethnoclasses organize various events. One of them, a beautiful example of cooperation between the school and the Balsia community, is Mardi Gras, which we celebrate with a bang.

Something seemed to be missing in the display of ethno-cultural values. Like an ingredient for fullness. We sing songs, we dance, we celebrate holidays, we even started to create a museum. The teachers of the ethno-cultural group had a timid idea - they needed an ancient flower garden. The Balsi community also liked the idea. Therefore, the local community together with the school started to implement the project.
The school librarian, Laura, translated probably all the books about ancient kindergartens, about Lithuanian education. Sketched how everything could look. We went in search of flowers. Most of the flowers are from the old man's homestead of Neringa, the chairman of the Balsiai community. Astros, phloxes, rues, irises, dahlias - an abundance of flowers to delight everyone's eyes.

Perhaps the most difficult stage has come - turning the extremely heavy soil, removing the sod, picking grasses, and filling with better soil. And then it's a pleasure to plant plants. We used strong men for the hard work. We were helped by the Vowel Shooters squad. They always rush to help.
The first year ended like that. The plants are planted. It remains for them to get stronger and cheer up next year. We started weaving fences for flower circles.
After the winter, it was very curious who survived, because the ground is really hard. While waiting for the first sprouts, together with the elementary science classes, we planted annual flowers on the windowsills. When the weather warmed up, the teachers planted the flowers grown together with the children in the flower beds.

The father of one ethnocultural class made a gate and a fence for the flower garden. Just like our old people used to have. Amazingly beautiful.
The hydrangeas planted by the outgoing fourth graders gave the flowerbed, as it were, a wall of flowers.
There is still work to be done in the flower garden - we need to weave fences for the flower beds, we still want to build a bench so that someone can sit and admire it, we need another flower from ancient times.
By creating together - school and community, we will implement everything. Next year, in late spring, the school will hold a festival "From the Treasure of the Ancients" in the shelter of the flower garden.
The environment we live in is made more beautiful by hardworking people and cooperation.
