In the new QS World University Rankings Vilnius University (VU) ranks 446th and remains the leader in Lithuania. This year, the rankings evaluated more than ever before – nearly 7 thousand – higher education institutions around the world.
VU stands out in particular for its graduate employability index, ranking 93rd in the world, the highest score VU has ever achieved in this category. The employability index reflects the employability of graduates and the ability of universities to develop future leaders who make a significant impact in their professional fields. This result is not only an assessment of the quality of VU studies, but also an inspiring testament to the achievements of the entire alumni community.
VU's student-to-academic staff ratio is exceptionally well-rated, allowing it to reach 210th place in this category and is associated with greater attention from the lecturer to the student. VU has also made significant progress in the area of sustainability - it has jumped 158 positions in this category and currently ranks 313th.
VU's international research network indicator has also improved noticeably - according to it, VU has jumped by as much as 47 positions and now ranks 351st. This relatively new ranking criterion (included since 2022) measures how widely and consistently the university collaborates with scientists from different countries - the more international and stronger the network, the higher the rating.
In the academic reputation category, VU has risen by 5 positions and is currently ranked 467th in the world. This assessment is based on the opinion of experts from the global academic community - they are asked to name the higher education institutions that, in their opinion, have the strongest study and research programs in their field.
In the employer reputation category, VU is among the 500 best universities in the world – this year it ranks 496th. This is an indicator that reveals how employers assess the competencies, readiness for the job market, and professional influence of graduates trained by the university.
Nationally, VU remains the most highly rated higher education institution. Among the five Lithuanian universities evaluated, it ranks first in most of the key ranking indicators – including academic and employer reputation, graduate employability, student-faculty ratio, international research network and sustainability.
When compiling the QS world university rankings, higher education institutions are evaluated according to a total of eight criteria: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Faculty Student ), the share of foreign teachers (International Faculty), the university's international research network (International Research Network), the number of foreign students (International Students) and sustainability (Sustainablity).
The final table of QS rankings included 1501 institutions, including 112 universities ranked for the first time.
