In the government office, preparatory work is underway for the 1863-1864. burying and commemorating the leaders of the rebellion. Made in 1863-1864. the commemoration of the leaders of the uprising consults with all interested partners and parties.
Great interest in 1863-1864. in the matters of burial and commemoration of the leaders of the rebellion shows Poland - a delegation of Polish experts arrived in Lithuania, to whom they were presented the plans prepared in 1863-1864. design proposals for the installation of the burial place of the leaders and participants of the uprising in the central chapel (columbarium) of the Old Races cemetery. Commission members and experts also visited the Rasa cemetery, where they were interested in the memorial site.
Taking into account the historical and cultural significance of this uprising for Lithuania and neighboring countries, the Poles expressed their desire to cooperate more actively both in organizing the funeral and in setting up the memorial, giving it a special priority.
A solemn burial ceremony is planned to be organized in the fall of 2019. It was decided that all the remains of the commanders and participants of the 1863-1864 uprising, including those of the leaders of this uprising, Zigmantas Sierakauskas and Kostas Kalinauskas, found in the Vilnius castle site, known as Gediminas Hill, should be buried with honor and dignity in the central chapel of the Old Races Cemetery in Vilnius. Lithuania also hopes that the ceremony will be attended by high-ranking officials of Poland and other countries directly related to this uprising - Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia.
Funding has already been secured for the Pantheon - all internal and external works of the chapel will be financed with EU structural funds.
