This year's August in Lithuania became the hottest since at least 1951 (when detailed meteorological observations were widely carried out in the country). The average monthly air temperature in Lithuania was 20,4 °C, which is even 2,8 degrees more than the average multi-year (1991-2020) air temperature for this month.
Until now, the hottest August in Lithuania was in 2002, when the average air temperature was 20,0 °C. This year, the second and third days of August were very hot. A large number of hot days have also been recorded, when the maximum daily air temperature reaches and exceeds 30 °C.
With rapid climate change, heat records are being recorded more and more often. The hottest July was recorded last year (2021), and in 2019 – the hottest June in the entire history of Lithuanian meteorological observations.
