The Lithuanian Energy Distribution Operator (ESO) is strengthening its forces, with forecasters predicting rain with thunderstorms and strong gusty winds on Midsummer's Day. The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service announces that thunderstorms are expected in many areas during Midsummer, during which wind gusts may reach up to 23 m/s.

"We are responding to weather forecasters' reports about the approaching storm and are strengthening our forces in western and southwestern Lithuania. More than 150 specialists are ready to eliminate possible power supply disruptions so that the Midsummer celebrations can take place as planned. We also invite residents to take care of their own safety and the safety of their property: if you are going out, do not leave loose items on balconies and outdoors, and also fully charge your mobile phones and have batteries," says ESO Public Relations Representative Rasa Juodkienė.

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service announces that on Tuesday night, there will be intermittent rain in many places, in some places heavy, and thunderstorms in many areas. Wind from the south, turning to the west, 9–14 m/s, gusts of 15–20 m/s in places, during thunderstorms in some places up to 23 m/s. On Tuesday, there will be intermittent rain in many places, thunderstorms in some places. Wind from the west, southwest, 9–14 m/s, gusts of 15–20 m/s in many places, in some places 21–23 m/s, on the coast in some places up to 25 m/s.

ESO reminds you how to prepare for approaching gusty winds:

Possible electrical problems: It is recommended to charge mobile phones and other important electronic devices. Also take care of flashlights, batteries and other necessary equipment.

Asset protection: Residents are urged to remove objects from balconies and yards that could be lifted by the wind or secure them securely. It is advised to park cars away from trees. It is also recommended to tightly close windows, doors and skylights of buildings and to reinforce temporary structures or structures.

Behavior outdoors: if you must go outside, it is advisable to dress appropriately, avoid walking under trees or near power lines. When driving, it is necessary to be especially careful due to possible obstacles on the road.

Broken wires: if you see a broken wire or damaged electrical device - do not approach and keep a distance of at least 8 meters. If you accidentally find yourself near a broken wire, move away in small steps, walking side by side.

If a wire falls on a car, get out of it with both feet on the ground at the same time. It is also very important not to touch both the car and the ground at the same time in such a situation.

Important information:

If you notice broken power lines, you should not touch them, keep your distance, do not approach them, and report the incident to ESO specialists as soon as possible by calling 1852. Residents can also register power supply disruptions on the information map on the ESO website (eso.lt). If the disruption has already been registered, there is no need to do this again.
