Five Lithuanian higher education institutions have agreed to allocate one million euros to update the information system for science, studies, activities and process management they use.
As Vilnius Gediminas Technical University "Vilnius Tech" announced on Tuesday, an agreement on the update of the EDINA EBS system was signed on April 25 by the heads of this higher education institution and Kaunas University of Technology, Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuanian Sports University, and Lithuanian Engineering College.
The 1 million euro project will be implemented by spring 2026.
The project will update and adapt the EBS personnel, finance and payroll processes and information management system to the needs of higher education institutions. In addition to it, EDINA consists of two other information systems: PeopleSoft and AIS.
According to Justinas Rastenis, Chairman of the EIDINA Board, the upgrade requires significant investments, as it is necessary to maintain historical data and adapt the solutions used by higher education institutions to the new version of the system, while the study process continues uninterrupted.
"The update is also necessary because the current system version does not allow the use of the latest database and application server versions, which creates cybersecurity threats and the risk of no longer being able to use the system due to version incompatibility," J. Rastenis is quoted in the report.
"We are glad that the moment has come when the project, which has been talked about for many years, which we have been coordinating and planning for a long time, has reached the light of day," he noted.
According to Vilnius Tech, the last time the EBS system was updated was more than ten years ago; in 2019, only software security and operating system updates were installed.
"The system also does not allow ensuring the implementation of requirements for integration with external state systems and registers, and complicates the system's support and maintenance," says the head of ITSC, who has been administering EDINA for 6 years.
