History professor Egidijus Aleksandravičius, the author of the biographical book "Adamkus" published a couple of years ago, says that after talking with the Adamkas, he remembers their phenomenal harmony and can put a sign of equality between these personalities.
"I would put many signs of equality between Alma Adamkiene and Valdas Adamkaus. In other words, education, erudition, books read, topics and concerns raised, artistic taste. In the end, the beauty of that everyday life that they created together, and the beauty that will always be in harmony with goodness," the historian told BNS, announcing the death of the first lady A. Adamkiene on Sunday.
"The harmony between beauty and goodness was clearly visible. This creates an envelope of humanity for everything that V. Adamkus did in a very visible way to everyone, and when combined in that more private life, where they did not see many people, but saw them when they communicated more closely, the harmony between A. Adamkiene and V. Adamkus is simply phenomenal," the books said. the author.
The book "Adamkus" was published in 2021, commemorating the 95th anniversary of V. Adamkus.
Although the main focus is on the president of the country, it also reflects the image of A. Adamkiene and her role in the life of V. Adamkaus.
According to E. Aleksandravičius, that picture in places fit and explained the path of the president, whose closest companion was the first lady.
"A. Adamkienė used to emphasize: I will not have this man with all my body and spirit, because he will belong to the society, to the action, he will be in a commotion. From the very beginning, he understood and appreciated it as a very rare person living in post-Soviet Lithuania," said the historian.
According to E. Aleksandravičius, A. Adamkienė had "her own strong personality structure, on the other hand, she very clearly chose the path to help her husband's career".
"Today, in that modern feminist context, one could say that she chose the role of a helper consciously, even though she had the strongest possible moral, intellectual backbone and education," said the professor.
According to him, long stories would be needed, how A. Adamkienė chose the path of a great helper of a great man from a "self-respecting and certainly not inconsiderate environment", and the words of V. Adamkaus that his wife had a great influence on the success of his life are very sincere and true.
"This is one of the standard forms of behavior based on humanistic psychology and historical sociology. Of course, she greatly contributed to V. Adamkaus, even to say career, too simple, too formal - career plus, maybe it should be said that way. A career is only a component of life, public activity. In other words, V. Adamkus is completely sincere and accurate in this case, there is no pathos here," said E. Aleksandravičius.
96-year-old A. Adamkienė died on Sunday in Vilnius after a serious illness.
