The solemn state funeral of the commanders and participants of the 1863-1864 uprising began in Vilnius on Friday.
Accompanied by the soldiers of the Lithuanian and Polish guards, the coffins with the remains of the commanders of the Lithuanian uprising Zigmantas Sierakauskas and Konstantinas Kalinauskas and 18 other rebels were transferred from the Palace of the Rulers to the Vilnius Archcathedral Basilica.
In the afternoon, they will be taken in a procession from the Vilnius Cathedral to the Old Races Cemetery, stopping at the Dawn Gate on the way.
The presidents of Lithuania and Poland will speak at the farewell ceremony in the Vilnius Cathedral Gitanas Nauseda and Andrzej Duda and Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrišenka.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba will also participate in the events.

The Lithuanian and Polish uprising against the Russian Empire took place in 1863-1864. The leaders of the uprising were executed in 1864. Burials were found in 2017 while cleaning the slopes of Mount Gediminas.
