If the residents do not comply with the stricter quarantine regime that will come into effect from Wednesday, during which many shops and places of service will be closed, the quarantine requirements may be tightened even more, according to the Prime Minister. Ingrida Simonyte He told LRT television on Tuesday that sales in grocery stores may be further restricted.
"I would hope that the fact that not all stores will be closed, and some will still carry a wider range due to their nature, will not become a deterrent for our people to entertain themselves in those places." If it happens, it is obvious that the quarantine requirements will have to be tightened even more", I. Šimonytė asserted in the LRT show "Dienos tema".
According to her, we can talk about solutions that would limit trade in essential goods from non-essential ones.
"In Europe, the experience, it must be said, is different, there are few countries where it is clearly not possible to trade in those trading places that sell both food and non-food goods, non-food goods, because then it is necessary to discuss whether elements, bulbs are a necessary item or no, but it is done. (…) If it becomes a very big center of attraction and it is seen that people are simply having fun in the shops or spending a lot of time in them in large groups, apparently greater strictures should also be considered", explained the Prime Minister.
"We will monitor the situation very carefully, if additional decisions are needed, say, regarding non-food items or accommodation services during the festive period, those decisions will be made," she added.
A stricter quarantine regime will come into force in Lithuania on Wednesday, during which many shops, hairdressers will be closed and people's movement will be restricted. Pharmacies and grocery stores will be able to continue operating, but they will not be prohibited from selling other goods.
Only food trade will be allowed in the marketplaces, individual non-food shops will have to close.
