On New Year's Eve, more fires broke out in Lithuania than usual - since midnight alone, firefighters received about a hundred calls.
"Various fires - starting with containers, ending with residential houses, cars," - about 2 o'clock. Konradas Liekis, chief specialist of the Situation Coordination Sub-section of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, told BNS on Sunday night.
Some of the fires are believed to have been caused by pyrotechnics, causing containers to catch fire in big cities.
In Vilnius, on P. Žadeika Street, a car caught fire, allegedly from New Year's pyrotechnics, and in the Panevėžys district, a house caught fire, allegedly from fireworks.
On New Year's Eve, Saturday, after 19 p.m., a person died in an apartment in Radviliškis district. A charred corpse was found in a four-apartment house.
At midnight Klaipėda, on Taikas Avenue, on the fourth floor of an apartment building, several people were poisoned by the smoke, they were handed over to medics.
Recently, 6-22 fires were registered in Lithuania per day.
Last year, more than 9,8 thousand cases arose in the country. fires, in which more than 70 people died.
