On Sunday, June 22, Vilnius will host one of the most significant Christian holidays – the Solemnity of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Novena. Believers are invited to join in common prayer and a festive Eucharistic procession, which symbolically highlights the presence of Christ among people.
In Vilnius Cathedral, the Holy Mass will begin at 12.30:13.30 p.m., followed by a Eucharistic procession through the Old Town at 15.00:XNUMX p.m. The celebration will end at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. with a prayer at the Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy at the Gate of Dawn.
"The Novena reminds us that Jesus remains alive and true in the Eucharist. It is a celebration that invites us to understand even more deeply the mystery of Christ's love and His presence among us," reads the invitation from the Vilnius Archdiocese.
During the celebration, the faithful not only accompany the Eucharist through the streets, but also bear witness to their faith and unity. Such processions have been an important part of church culture for centuries, and this year a large number of participants are expected, seeking to renew their spirituality.
The Vilnius Archdiocese's statement also quotes Blessed Karolis Akutis:
"The Eucharist is the highway to heaven. When people sit in the sun, they get sunburned, but when they sit in front of the Eucharistic Jesus, they become saints."
The organizers invite everyone - both residents and guests of the city - to join this spiritual journey and celebrate a day full of faith, communion, and hope.
