For more than a decade, the tradition of commemorating the coronation day of Lithuania's King Mindaugas, July 6, by singing the "National Anthem" is returning to the stores of the country's largest "Maximas" retail chain. The Lithuanian retail chain traditionally joins the "National Anthem around the World 2020" initiative and invites all customers and employees to join together for the united singing of the Lithuanian national anthem. This year, you are invited to sing the "National Anthem" while maintaining a safe distance - at the distance of the flag.
"On State Day, the National Anthem is sung in unison - a living tradition of our time, symbolizing our pride in our country. On July 6, Lithuanians all over the world and in Lithuania will sing the "National Anthem" at exactly 21:00 p.m. local time. Taking into account the possible risks, in those parts of the world where quarantine conditions allow, the organizers of the "National Anthem around the World 2020" initiative invite you to choose to sing at bridges connecting different shores - in the fresh air, next to rivers and other bodies of water, as well as in Maximos stores. keeping a safe distance of 1-2 meters from each other. The traditional Lithuanian flag is approximately this long. Stretched out among those gathered to sing, it can become another symbolic bridge of unity.
"In this difficult time for the whole world, the safety and health of people is the main priority. We cannot yet celebrate the victory over Covid-19. However, we can celebrate the unity of people discovered in the face of the pandemic, able to overcome distances, borders, nationalities, professions and all other differences and unite for a common goal. The anthem sung by each of us will become a symbolic bridge of unity this year. Even when we are on the other side - in another country, in another city, in a closed apartment or even in an isolated ward - we can feel that we are together: with compatriots, relatives or just other people," shares Raimundas Daubaras, organizer of the "National Anthem Around the World" initiative.
This year, on July 6, at exactly 21:00 p.m. Lithuanian time, the "National Anthem", which was played simultaneously all over the world for the 12th time, was sung in unison by Lithuanians for the first time in 2009. This time it sounded on the occasion of the millennium of Lithuania's name, when the sailors of our country, sailing around the world on the yacht "Ambersail", invited as many as 26 Lithuanian communities around the world to celebrate the honorable anniversary together.
The tradition nurtured by Lithuanians all over the world for more than a decade has already acquired an official status today - on July 6. not only the coronation of the State or King Mindaugas, but also the day of the "National Anthem" is celebrated.
