On Wednesday, the Government did not approve a proposal to change the rules on how bicycles can be transported on intercity buses.
A petition registered on March 18 last year proposed allowing bicycles to be placed in the bus interior or luggage compartment, without requiring them to be secured or transported in other designated places.
As the Government Petitions Commission explains, it is not safe to transport bicycles in a long-distance bus cabin if there are no specially equipped spaces for this purpose.
It is also noted that, according to the currently valid rules, bicycles can be transported inside the bus, outside or in the luggage compartment, in places specially designated for this. When transporting bicycles, it is allowed to take into account the design of the bus and the provided fastening points.
The Cabinet of Ministers also approved the proposal for the Ministry of Transport and Communications to provide methodological assistance to municipalities in order to ensure the safe transportation of bicycles in local transport.
