The municipality of the capital invites seniors from Vilnius to actively participate in various free activities - exercise, excursions, attend artistic and creative activities. The vast majority of these activities will take place in the recently established "Seniors' Beehive" (J. Kubiliaus St. 2) and in the premises of the organizations that won the competition announced by the municipality.
"We are working more and more in the field of employment of seniors, so I am very happy that the leisure time of older Vilnius residents will become more diverse, more meaningful and will give not only new experiences, but also friends." It's also good to see that seniors will be able to learn, develop, and acquire new skills that are relevant these days," says Vytautas Mitalas, deputy mayor of the capital.
Seniors will be able to participate in creative - educational classes, dance, music, acting, film and art classes free of charge. There will also be special excursions around Vilnius, other outings events. Seniors interested in floristry are invited to participate in the flower arrangement clubs. Activities will continue throughout the year.
The health of seniors is also taken care of: Nordic walking, exercises, and lectures on healthy lifestyle and health are offered to older Vilnius residents. Encouraging seniors to communicate more, seniors' meetings, fun themed evenings, and folklore classes will be held.
One of the goals is to teach older Vilnius residents how to use information technologies, so computer literacy classes and training are organized on how to use smart devices.
"While organizing the project "Let's meet, dear seniors" for three years, we noticed that the seniors of our country really want to learn how to use smart technologies, to be able to communicate on social networks, e-mail. by mail, use e-mail banking, being able to shop online, pay utility bills, etc. Smartphones are already in the hands of many seniors today, but apart from calling and texting, they lack the ability to use other services that would make their lives easier. That's why we decided to take the initiative and add smart classes to the creative activities organized by our project this year. Modern technologies make life easier for each of us, so let's meet and get smarter, dear seniors! Let the coming September bring you new knowledge, it's never too late to learn," said Jelena Narūnienė, the organizer of one of the activities.
Services for seniors will be provided this year by 9 non-governmental organizations: public institutions "Employment Therapy Center", "Lithuanian Rehabilitation and Nursing Center", "Healthy Year", "Artoteka" and "Idea of Success", as well as the Union of People with Disabilities in Lithuania, the Lithuanian Samaritan Community in Vilnius department, Vilnius City Elderly Association and Vilnius Archdiocese Caritas.
