For the first time in the tower of Gediminas Castle, the tricolor of Lithuania was used as a symbol of free Lithuania in 1919. According to tradition, the old flag is handed over for safekeeping to one of the schools in Lithuania that excels in developing citizenship and nurturing historical memory. This year, the flag of the tower of Gediminas Castle was handed over to the Butrimoniai Gymnasium of the Alytus district.
