On Thursday, the Prime Minister voted in advance in the municipal elections Ingrida Simonyte says that the most important thing for her is that Vilnius continues to develop as a European city.
"My expectations are that Vilnius will continue to be the city that Gediminas wrote about in his letters: a city that is open, waiting for everyone who is a person of good will, no matter what their origin, nationality, what they do, so that everyone can find a place here" , - to journalists after the vote in Vilnius city municipality said the Prime Minister.
According to her, as Vilnius expands, its management must solve practical problems, such as traffic jams and the like, and create infrastructure.
"But the most important thing is that Vilnius continues to develop as a European city, that is the most important thing for me," said the prime minister, who belongs to the conservative party.
I. Šimonytė came to vote in advance together with Valdus Benkunskas, the candidate for mayor of the Lithuanian Christian Democrats of the Homeland Union.
As one of the advantages of these elections, the representative of the Conservatives named the tightened conditions for political committees, which she said had until now had exceptional conditions compared to parties.
"One thing is important in these elections, and I would consider it a great advantage that the largest number of parties are competing for mandates in the councils. If last time we talked about something committization and it was to a very large extent determined by reservations or gray areas in the election laws, which allowed election committees to compete in completely different conditions to the way parties compete, which we no longer see now," the Prime Minister noted.
"Those committees that were stronger remained as committees and participants in the political field, but it is no longer the case that in municipalities ten committees are competing, which is a more non-partisan committee than another non-partisan committee," said the Head of the Government.
She also urged people to come to the elections, because it is an opportunity to express their will and determine future decisions.
"Sitting on the sofa or fighting on Facebook, but never coming to the ballot box, is not a characteristic of a citizen. Citizen, when you want to decide something, elections are the way to do it," said the Prime Minister.
Direct elections of municipal councils and mayors are held in Lithuania on Sunday. You can also vote in advance - early voting in municipal buildings ends on Thursday at 20:XNUMX.
