Edita Urbanovič, head of the "Renkuosi Lietuvą" project, says that companies operating in Lithuania tend to choose Lithuanians who have experience working in their home country, rather than members of the diaspora returning from abroad. According to her, many Lithuanian companies have a negative attitude towards people returning from emigration.
"Most corporate employers agree that returnees have valuable experience that local candidates may lack. However, if there is an opportunity to choose between a candidate who has gained experience in Lithuania and a candidate who has worked abroad, as many as 75%. companies would choose a candidate who had work experience in Lithuania", commented E. Urbanovič on Thursday during the discussion "Attracting the Lithuanian diaspora to the Lithuanian labor market".
The head of the project claimed that the data of the conducted surveys show that more than half of the employers of Lithuanian companies see compatriots returning from abroad as tending to demand much better working conditions without reason.
"The two most common attitudes about workers with migrant experience are not very favorable to them. Even 62 percent surveyed companies agree that migrant workers more often have unreasonable expectations of working conditions. It is quite often feared that those who have returned from abroad will tend to demand the same conditions that they had in the workplace abroad - fixed working hours, possibly better paid overtime, more flexible working conditions", explained E. Urbanovič.
