The Lithuanian leader attended a meeting in Palanga on Tuesday with the outgoing Polish President Andrzej Duda, who is visiting the country. Gitanas Nauseda took place on the Air Force "Spartan".
The outgoing Polish President A. Duda, together with First Lady Agata Duda, has been in Lithuania since Monday, when the Vilnius Summit was held in the capital. On Tuesday, G. Nausėda, together with First Lady Diana Nausėdienė, met with guests from Poland at the seaside, and a press conference was held after the bilateral meeting of the presidents at the Palanga Amber Museum. The Presidential Office also shared moments from the meetings on G. Nausėda's official Facebook account.
One of the shared videos shows that G. Nausėda, together with D. Nausėdiene, went to the seaside on the Lithuanian Air Force Spartan, and soon greeted their Polish colleagues at Palanga Airport.
ELTA asked the Presidential Office whether such trips in the Spartan to meetings not abroad, but in other Lithuanian cities, are common practice.
"The president's trips on the Spartan are common when the president's agenda requires it. In this case, the president's agenda was coordinated with the agenda of the Polish president's visit to Lithuania. The Polish president also flew from Vilnius to Palanga by plane," presidential advisor Ridas Jasiulionis stated in a written response to Elta.
True, the Presidential Office did not answer the question of how much money such a flight on the Spartan to Palanga required.
However, in response to a query from the lrytas.lt portal, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) assured that this flight cost the military 1,7 thousand euros.
"The KAM granted permission to use the aircraft for a VIP flight, Lithuanian army The Air Force allocated one crew. It cost the Lithuanian military 1,7 thousand euros,” the ministry told the portal.
As ELTA previously reported, the bilateral meeting between G. Nausėda and A. Duda, who has led Poland since 2015, held on Tuesday is likely one of the last, as the neighboring country elected a new president on Sunday.
Nationalist historian Karol Nawrocki won Poland's presidential election at the weekend. The National Electoral Commission said the 42-year-old JAV A supporter of President Donald Trump won 50,89 percent of the vote in the second round of the election.
