President Gitanas Nauseda and Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis congratulates Lithuanian mothers on Mother's Day.
The President together with the country's first lady Diana Nausėdiene congratulated all mothers of Lithuania and on this occasion planted an apple tree in the yard of the Presidency.
"This apple tree is a symbol for me. My mother was a very close person to me. And for everyone, whether mommy has already left Annapilin or is alive, she is the person from whom one draws strength, from whom one draws life wisdom and, above all, from whom one draws love. Therefore, I want this apple tree, covered with blossoms, to make our hearts happy," said the country's leader.
"Wherever you are, whether you are a member of the world's Lithuanian community far from the Motherland, whether you are in a small Lithuanian town, or whether you are in the capital, today we send the most beautiful and warmest wishes to each of you," the first lady congratulated the mothers of Lithuania.
Apple trees were planted throughout Lithuania in 2018 during the campaign "I plant an apple tree - I decorate Lithuania, I honor the memory of mothers" in honor of the memory of mothers who did not return from Siberia, who quietly survived war and post-war atrocities, loss, poverty, and who gave up their dreams for children. The idea was then supported and helped to implement by the Presidency.
Today, the planting of an apple tree in the courtyard of the Presidency is a symbolic continuation of this campaign and a tribute to all mothers who, raising their children righteously, raised and are raising the whole of Lithuania.
"They will love us unconditionally - wherever we are, whatever we do. They will help us in any way they can - whatever we ask for. They will always miss us and wait for us - even if we visit every day. They will be happy and proud, they will protect and nurture, they will calm and comfort. They are our Mothers. The most expensive and the only ones. I sincerely congratulate all Moms. Be strong. Be happy. Be loved," says the Prime Minister's greeting.
